Avoca 4 H Club girls met with Loreta Allen as home demonstration agent. 39 girls and four mothers attended. Several locals visited families, funerals and church events were noted, with many Avoca residents traveling to nearby towns and churches. Avoca arms a baseball victory 4 to 3 over Corinth as farming activity continues with planting and harvesting underway.

Former Leeders Business Man Buried Sundays
Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Methodist Church for John Anderson Wilhite, 87, who died Thursday at 11 p m in Corpus Christi at the home of his daughter, Mrs Mildred Haines. Burial was in Highland cemetery beside his wife. He was a Lueder merchant from 1907 to 1951 operating a grocery and hardware store. Survivors include two sons, two daughters, a sister, six grandchildren, and one great grandson.

Bud Wheeler Former Resident Dies in Wichita Falls Hospital
Bud Wheeler owner and manager of the Seymour Hotel died last Friday night at Bethania hospital in Wichita Falls. He was 40, born February 3, 1908, in Center. He attended the University of Texas and served in the Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include his wife Ernestine Barkley Wheeler and mother Mrs. Della Eaton. Funeral services were held at the Seymour Presbyterian Church with interment at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.

Birthday Parties Honor Husbands at Bunker Hill

Mr and Mrs J N Capps and son Ted left Tuesday for Aransas Pass after visiting Mrs J P Orr for about ten days. May 10 brought Searcy Orr and family to the Orr home near Lagerton to join a sister and relatives. Jimmy Orr was away with an oil gravity company at Vicksburg Mississippi. The Capps party and Mrs Orr later toured New Mexico and Arizona returning early this week.

Crawford Named Educational Director at Gainesville Church
Earl Crawford, a student at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, accepts the post of educational director at Grand Avenue Baptist Church in Gainesville. He and his wife and children will reside in Gainesville while he continues seminary studies. Carolyn and the twins John and Jeannette accompany him.
