Mendez Services Held Saturday
Requiem mass for Manuel Castinano Mendez aged 40 was read at St. Ann's Catholic Church at 2 p m Saturday. He died at 8 30 a m Wednesday at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo after a heart attack. The Rev Vincent Nally officiated with burial in Highland Cemetery under Kinney Funeral Home directions. He was born November 14 1928 in Knox County and lived in Stamford before moving to San Angelo four years ago. He worked with Lighthouse for the Blind for three years and later at a San Angelo furniture company. Survivors include five daughters from Stamford and San Angelo, his parents Alex Mendex of Stamford and Maria Castellano of Rice, five brothers and two sisters listed.

Jones County faces about 4000 dollars less in oil and gas tax revenue next year as valuations drop by roughly half a million dollars. Stamford electrician Don Shelly remained in critical condition after a flash fire at his East Bunkley Street home. A prior bid was withdrawn after the bidder claimed an error. new bids may add work.
