Jasper Newton Wiley a Stamford resident since 1912 celebrated his 95th birthday at the family home 301 South Anson Street with wife and sons R F Wiley and T R Wiley and other relatives. Born June 3 1841 in Memphis Tennessee he moved to Texas in 1870 and has lived in Belton Anson Haskell and Stamford. He worked as a farmer and remains mobile with a cane. descendants include 35 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

W G Morris formerly of Ralls returns from Dallas after meeting Western Auto Supply officials to choose fixtures and merchandise for the Western Auto Associate Store planned at 111 North Swenson Avenue next to Howe Furniture. Memorial Day Service At Vernon Legion Post
A replica cemetery crosses on the Vernon D. Hart post American Legion lawn marked the Memorial Day service honoring soldiers since World War I. Poppies touched by five girls decorated the crosses as taps sounded and Rev. Ben Parker gave the address. The Texas Cowboy Reunion Band directed by Dick Rowland performed.

Youth Burned When Gasoline Explodes
Eldon Smith, 16, son of Mr and Mrs J G Smith of near Lagerton, was brought to Stamford Sanitarium for treatment of burns two weeks after a gasoline explosion in a closed bucket. He suffered severe burns from the hips down and his hands were badly seared. He poured gasoline into an ant hill, replaced the lid, and stamped it shut, triggering the blast.

The Ellen Smith and Mittie Shelton circles of the Woman's Missionary Society met at St John’s Methodist Church to discuss inviting the Northwest Texas Conference Woman’s Missionary Society to Stamford next spring. About 200 delegates are expected with a 50 member per delegate ratio. The yearbook program featured talks on world peace interracial relations and civic duty during election year.
