Quick Rescue Saves Girl From Drowning at Pool

Twelve year old Patsy Singletary nearly drowned at the five foot pool Sunday evening. Lifesavers Dan Martin and Mack Zimmerman pulled her from the water and performed artificial respiration. She was rushed to Stamford Sanitarium and treated with penicillin and later discharged, with her mother arriving at the hospital.

Mrs Artie Lewis Dies in Plainview Hospital At 14

Mrs Artie Lewis aged 14 and mother of Byron Lewis of this city died Sunday in a Plainview hospital. Funeral was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Plainview where she was a member. She had moved to Plainview May 1 to live with daughters and had lived in Stamford the past three years with Byron Lewis. Survived by husband and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

First Baptist Vacation School Opens June 6

A two week Vacation Bible School will start Monday June 6 at the First Baptist Church with Ret Tatta as principal. Preparation day is Saturday June 4 at 8:30 a.m. at the church for registration and instruction. A Trinity Baptist parade will leave the church at 9:30 a.m. followed by a refreshment period at Harmon Park. Commencement is Thursday night June 16 at 7:30 p.m. at the church and a picnic will follow on June 17 at Lueders Encampment grounds.

Stamford Residents Win Prizes at Jackson Tire Co Event

Mrs R G Ladd of Stamford won the large evaporative cooler as first prize at the opening of Jackson Tire Co budget department last week. Sam Single of Stamford took second prize an electric hot plate and E W Carlson of Leeders won a fitted picnic basket.

Breakfast Meeting Aims to Boost Texas Cowboy Reunion

A breakfast gathering will be held Thursday morning June 9 at 7 30 at the Chuck House near the Bunkhouse on the Texnas Cowboy Reunion grounds. The event aims to stimulate interest in the Texas Cowboy Reunion, led by Lee Walker, manager of the Chamber of Commerce.

Camp Sweeney Movie Shown to Rotarians

A film about Camp Sweeney near Gainesville was shown at a Rotary meeting. Tommy Cooper of Stamford is among the camp counselors. the camp runs in June to August and offers subsidized attendance. Dr Ike Hudson commended the camp’s work after the showing. Mrs Coleman C Baker of Sherman, daughter of Rev and Mrs Underwood of Stamford, died after months of illness.

Youthful Charles Coody Wins Golf Tournament Title

Charles Coody, 17, from Stamford, captured the annual invitation at the Stanford Country Club by defeating Hagen Edmonds of Anson 2 1 in the finals. Coody earlier beat G C Osborne Abilene 3 2 while Edmonds defeated Eddie Langert Beau mont 4 2 to reach the final round. Gene Swenson claimed the consolation.

Boedeker Family Tour Visits Texas Kin and Friends

Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Boedeker and daughter Alice Newton spent eight days visiting in South and East Texas. They visited E. J. Boedeker's sister in Hearne who will be 90 this fall. They also visited M. A. Boedeker Susan in Velasco and friends in Taylor Brenham Caldwell and Bryan.

Memorial Service Honors War Dead and Lincoln Echoes

Memorial Day observances featured a speech recalling Lincoln at Gettysburg by County Judge H G Andrews Jr. The service on the post office lawn included a firing volley, wreaths by VFW and American Legion auxiliaries, invocations, taps, and tours of the nearby armory.

Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Medlin of Temple attended Stamford High School graduation exercises. Their granddaughter Glynn Medlin was a member of the graduating class. The Medlins visited in the home of their son Weaver Medlin and his family.

Two Girls To Attend Aquatic School

Hollis Rae Haynes and Sue Mickler left for a ten day American Red Cross National Aquatic school at Lake Murray Ardmore Oklahoma. They will be delegates from the Jex County Red Cross chapter which will finance the trip to ensure qualified instructors for the summer swimming courses. They will become fully qualified swimming and water safety instructors after the course. Plans are underway for Red Cross swimming classes at the municipal swimming pool later this summer. Hollis Rae is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hollis Haynes and just graduated Stamford High School. Sue is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jess Mickler and recently graduated Paint Creek school.

The All Lutheran Food Appeal completes organization in the Panhandle area spanning Texas north of U S Highway 30 from Marshall to El Paso. Authority on Holy Land To Speak At Baptist Church

Rev. Walter J. Field, an authority on the Holy Land, will speak at the First Baptist Church Sunday night. He will present a Holy Land tour planned for this summer by Rev. Byron Bryant. The program titled The Holy Land Passing Parade includes a 30 minute color sound film Life in Warn Tarn Palestine. Field has just returned from the Holy Land and the service starts at 8 p m with the public invited.
