Avoca residents report travel visits and family gatherings across Winters Anson Abilene Stamford and Lubbock. The Caudle family reunion and church events fill weekends while surgeries at Baylor Hospital in Dallas are noted with positive outcomes.
Funeral for C. G. Burson Sr. 82, longtime PCA executive, was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Haskell. Dr. Troy Culpepper Rev. Walter Cope land and Bob Conner officiated. Burial followed at Willow Cemetery. Burson died Sunday at his home in Haskell. Pallbearers were J. L. Hill Lynn Pace Jr J R Miller Judge Ben Charles Chapman J R Gleaton Clifton Cobb Wilde Medford.
Two longtime Stamford School System staff members retire at end of the school year. Mrs. R. L. Harrison, a junior high English teacher, ends 28 years total teaching service including prior positions. Mrs. Clay Markham, RN and school nurse since 1949, completes 23 years in nursing.
The Jones County home demonstration clubs hold their annual Rally Day on Thursday June 8 at the Anson Lions Club Hall. Registration starts at 9 30 a m with the Home Demonstration Council at 10 00. A noon covered dish luncheon is open to the public followed by a program.
Gene Stanford will attend the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science after completing high school and one year of the required apprenticeship for licensure as a mortician and funeral director. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs Marvin Stanford.
Ricky Eugene Brazell tops Paint Creek High School 1972 with a 89.2 four year average and will study wildlife management at Texas Tech. Salutatorian Melanie Ann Trautvetter has 87.7 and will pursue cytotechnology at Oscar Rose Junior College. Junior High valedictorian Cory Trautvetter posts 95.2. eighth grade salutatorian Peggy Dudensing has 89.95.
Bill Koon of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce told Rotarians on Tuesday that the Town and Country organization aims to create an area-wide economic development unit to guide regional growth and cooperation.
Kvon described a recent meeting of a new regional group that covers Goree and Munday to the north, Anson to the south, Lueders to the east, and Aspermont and Hamlin to the west. Discussions focused on education agriculture tourism recreation and local industry.
