National Guard Leaves Friday for Camp Hulen
The Stamford unit of the Texas National Guard Company K 142nd Infantry sails Friday for Camp Hulen at Palacios for a two week encampment. Led by Captain Frank M. Locke and officers First Lieutenant Dudley M. Duncan and Second Lieutenant Bluford W. Feris they travel with 56 enlisted men in a car attached to the regular passenger train, leaving Stamford at 1:55 pm. Major E. Wardwick attends as commander of the Third Battalion 142nd Infantry.

C. E. Wason, longtime head of the Western Candy Company, closes the candy firm to launch a candy brokerage serving Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Gowens Family Reunion Draws Relatives to Stamford Home
Relatives of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Gowens gathered at their Stamford area home on July 20 for a family reunion. Mr. Gowens is 76 as of March 8 and Mrs. Gowens will be the upcoming August 11. The couple married February 18, 1892 and have lived in several Texas towns before moving near Stamford two years ago. Attendees included numerous Gowens siblings and spouses from Stamford, Graham, Haskell, Crosbyton, Murrey, Coleman, South Bend, Penrose Colorado, and other relatives, plus 28 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Richardson sisters move to Albuquerque for new roles
Miss Mona Richardson and her brother C B Richardson left Wednesday for Albuquerque New Mexico where Miss Richardson has accepted a position. Three Stamford Residents Injured In Car Collision
Grace and Etta McKinley and Calvin Jeter were injured Sunday night near Olney in an automobile crash while en route to Olney. Grace sustained a broken left arm and head injury, Etta scalp wounds, and Jeter broken ribs and chest injuries. They were treated at Olney hospital. Grace remained there while Etta and Jeter were returned to Stamford. Jeter stayed at Stamford sanitarium until Wednesday night. Etta stayed with her mother. All three were reported favorable on Thursday morning.

Peacock Woman Struck By Negro Who Kills Self
Mrs. J. D. Patterson Jr of Peacock was injured July 22 when struck on the head with a gun by a negro cook at the Patterson ranch between Aspermont and Peacock. The cook, Sam Cyrus, shot himself and died soon after. He had terrorized Russell family visitors from Houston. Mrs. Patterson’s daughter Jadene was not harmed. Louis Russell, 17, was knocked down in a scuffle. the assailant locked the boys in a milk house. The girls were not harmed and Mrs. Patterson is advancing toward recovery in Stamford Sanatorium.
