Hospital Board cuts tax rate to eight cents

The Stamford Memorial Hospital District Board voted unanimously to reduce the 1981 tax rate from nine to eight cents per hundred dollars valuation, citing 92 percent collection and estimated year valuations. Other business included ambulance subsidy requests and a tax correction refund for land classifications. A separate report noted the death of Jesse Gonzalez, 19, found near the water tower with no foul play suspected, and a minor car crash on U S Highway 277 injuring Denise Malanio.

Bloodmobile to visit Stamford at St John’s United Methodist

The Red Cross Blood Services Red River Region reports a bloodmobile stop at St John’s United Methodist Church in Stamford on Tuesday July 28 from 3 to 7 p m. The quota is 83 units and donors aged 17 to 66 who weigh at least 110 pounds are urged to donate. The drive supports 43 area hospitals across 32 counties in North Central Texas and Southern Oklahoma, with about 95 units needed daily.

Air Show at Arledge Field to thrill Stamford Sunday

Stamford Chamber of Commerce brings aerial daredevils to Arledge Field Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Gates open at noon for the Tumble Weed Air Show. Seven pilots perform daring acts including a midair dead stick and a plane tail ribbon cut. Six skydivers jump and land in the show area. Visitors meet pilots on the ground. concessions run by Stamford High School cheerleaders. attendees come from Fort Worth Dallas Wichita Falls Midland Odessa Lubbock Grapevine. Sponsored by the Stamford Chamber with help from pilots Clifford Beggs Roy Arledge and local service clubs.
