John B. Ashburn age 83 died at his home near Tuxedo after a stroke. He helped develop Jones county and lived in Texas since 1876. Funeral held at the Baptist Church in Tuxedo with burial at Faw View cemetery. Survived by wife Margaret Gray Ashburn, three daughters, six sons, twenty grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and relatives.

Mrs. Lera Whiteley a 28 year old beauty operator from Temple, employed in Anson, underwent an operation at Stamford Sanitarium Monday for appendicitis. Doctors found two appendixes, an extremely rare condition, after her fourth prior operation. Her father W. M. Consert disclosed the details.

The Stamford Independent School District seeks a PWA grant to build two elementary schools on Moran Street. Total cost estimated at 90 000 with 45 percent funded by the WPA or 40 500 and the remaining 49 500 financed by the district. Guardsmen From Stamford To Attend Camp
About 40 National Guardsmen from Company K 1st Infantry under Captain Frank M Locke and Lieutenants Dudley M Du Bec and Buford W depart Stamford on August 6 for Camp Stullix near San Antonio for a 15 day training. They will return August 13. The concentration at Camp Butlins includes all guardsmen from Texas New Mexico Arizona and Oklahoma and all regular army troops in the Fifth Corps area totaling about 90 000 performing simulated battle conditions. This mass maneuver replaces the annual encampment at Camp Palacios.

Flood scare ends encampment stay near Phantom Hill Dam
Flood warnings forced an unscheduled shutdown of the Stamford encampment along the Clear Fork of the Brazos. The danger to Phantom Hill Dam prompted campers to pack up and head home, but once the flood risk subsided several Stamford families returned to resume temporary rents and recreation nearby.
