Nominations for officers of the Vernon D. Hart post of the American Legion were made for the annual election to be held Monday next week. Charles A. Putman and Dr. A. Blackwell are named for posts.
W H Tripp celebrated a quarter century with Southwestern Bell Telephone at a Stamford office gathering. The event featured a catered reception and pin presentation by Mrs Day. Chester Burson won the plant department contest. attendees included Tripp family and several colleagues and guests in a warm, informal style.
Denton July 26 Special to The American Mrs Sarah Upshaw daughter of T A Upshaw of Stamford has been cast in a leading role in the Texas Centennial Pageant to be produced by the Texas State Teachers College faculty and students in Denton on August 14 The pageant begins efforts toward the 1936 Texas centennial celebrating the state’s 100th anniversary of its deace of Mexico Upshaw will receive her Bachelor of Science degree at summer commencement while at the Teachers College she has been active in dramatics and women’s organizations including Pato Mary ns and the Women’s Forum
M. J. Powelson of Bee Ind will read in a six page vision in the will of Johny Smitty of Rochester New York who was rescued from drowning in City New Jersey several years ago.

United States Senator Tom Connally spoke to about 300 people in Stamford in support of his bid for re election. Judge C E Coombes introduced him and praised his record, noting aid from the Home Owners Loan Corporation and other relief measures. Connally emphasized his record and the recovery program, urging continued support to move Texas toward prosperity. Campaign manager J P Rice said Texas reports show likely renomination by a large margin over two opponents.
A Stamford area gathering of B E Needles dealers from many towns met with B E Needles H T McKissack sales man R L Me conforming manager at Stamford store. Brunswick Tire reps F H Williams and L M Everett attended along with spouses and other visitors. A luncheon proceeded a four reel talking picture about Byres.
The Sunshine Special annual picnic for Stamford children will be staged August 29 by the Exchange Club. T. H. chairman presides over a busy committee setup while E. A. Russell, new Wichita Valley railroad freight agent, attends the meeting.
S W Gound, formerly of Oklahoma, is now manager of Stamford Motor a ace dealers for this territory. He purchased an interest in the business and will handle management after replacing J H Lyon. Gound and his wife with two young sons move from Abilene to Stamford to run the dealership.
Elizabeth Smith of Hamlin, daughter of Mr and Mrs B D Smith, was struck by a light pickup in Roby while crossing stairs to ice a skull fracture. The driver swerved to miss her and struck the rear of the truck, splitting her head. She underwent an operation Thursday and is improving but remains critically ill.
Clay Randel chaired the vocational service committee program at the Rotary Club luncheon. The topic was Employer Employee Relationship. Upshaw, the president, called a club council meeting of directors and committee chairs for Thursday at his home.

Henry H Wootten and his son of Chickasha Oklahoma drowned during a fishing trip on a stream. A search party recovered both bodies. the boy reportedly fell in first and the father perished while attempting to save him. Mrs C M Francis attended the funeral in Chickasha.
