The Central West Texas Baptist Encampment at Lueders opens for a week with Dr. George Truett as a major draw. The event features an all-star program, strong musical lineup, and extensive camp facilities drawing attendees from Stamford and beyond.
J W Ross of East Hamilton Street Stamford receives a Life Membership certificate from the Walters Oklahoma Masonic Lodge. Ross formerly lived in Stamford where he ran a general merchandise business and advanced to the 22nd degree in Masonry.
M J Olson merchant on South Ferguson Street plans a branch at Ericksdahl. A new gin by Carl Ekdahl and a commodious store building by F E Olson will advance the business, with the store intended to be occupied by M J Olson and his partner.
J R Masterson county agent reports from A and M College and U S Department of Agriculture that grasshoppers likely cause no material crop damage in 1925. Egg-eating insects are hatching in large numbers, leaf worm problems should be limited, and pests have not yet crossed the Texas border from Old Mexico. Good news for farmers and business people.
D C Morgan informs customers that due to his mother's illness at the old home in Water Valley Mississippi he will be away for a few weeks and his grain store will be closed during his absence. He plans to reopen with increased stock and invites friends and customers to visit upon his return.
The Stamford and Abilene Boy Scout patrols will serve at the Baptist Encampment at Leeders. They direct parking, recover lost items, and assist around the grounds while the encampment covers their expenses. Stamford members include Edward Baker and others under Scout Executive John Price of Abilene.
Letters from W A Bynum and State Rural School Inspector Eilers praise Miss Luella Hauk for County Superintendent candidacy and her work at Corinth School in Jones County Texas. The endorsements urge support to promote rural schools and Hauks advocacy.
Austin report recalls Corinth School closing exercises with kodak pictures of cars and shop work. It notes 62 families and over 80 automobiles attended, praising two-teacher school and principal’s four years of leadership. Letter expresses hope for Miss Hauk to lead in a wider field.
Manager J C Pinson and Commercial Engineer Carter of Southwestern Telephone recently completed a house census in Stamford's residential area, listing 784 houses excluding the business district. The count aids future telephone extension budgeting as a large portion of the area is served by Southwestern. Pinson also surveyed eight towns in the Stamford District and reported strong service across the region.
A South Texas Revans Baptist preacher lectured on the post office lawn for over three hours, lambasting the Ku Klux Klan as a destructive, un-American institution. He accused Klan leaders of control over churches and politics, praised by some but signaled disquiet at broad support, and noted a growing anti Klan gathering in Jones County.
Dr. S Lk Tadlock retires due to ill health and transfers his practice, office, and goodwill to Drs. H H Jacks and Emma Tiehman Hicks of Dallas. Dr. Hicks, a graduate dentist, is praised for her training and character, with Dr. Tadlock planning future plans while remaining in Stamford.
Mrs. E L Howard and her children returned from Cisco where they joined the family after the death of Mrs. E Moore in that city. Moore aged 73 lived a useful life. Surviving are Mrs. Howard and seven children plus four daughters and two sons. Funeral held Thursday with Mr. Howard attending.
The Epworth League will hold a rally in Haskell next Saturday and Sunday July 19 and 20. All Leaguers are urged to attend and visitors are welcome. The event features Miss Ruth Brown and Miss Clarice Hood with district officers in charge.
The old Central Christian Church will hold its final service this Sunday before tearing down to make way for a new brick structure costing about $30,000. Member J B Harrison has pledged $10,000, inspiring others as they plan a modern church with expanded facilities and utilities. Services will be held at the Alcove Theater during construction.

Henry F. Shrum a 55 year old bachelor dies after months of illness at the home of his sisters Mrs. Homer Odom and Mrs. R M Dickenson in Stamford. He devoted his life to helping family and lived by the motto Service above Self. Funeral held in Gilmer with graveside at Grice Cemetery. remains shipped by Barrow Undertaking. Mrs Newell Berry and baby return from Dallas Corsicana and Hubbard City visit.
J A Hilcher, Stamford Picture Framing Shop owner, visited Galveston with Company K. The Stamford unit, youngest in the division, posted top marks in kitchen, drill, and barracks competitions, earning praise for officers and men. They expect a homecoming Sunday after strong camp performances and a city welcome.
Mr J J Davia accepted a board offer to lead the elementary school buildings on Fast Moran St Stamford He recently attended Den ton Teachers College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree He has about ten years in Texas public schools including Prosper over the past four years Mrs Davis a senior at the Teachers College will teach alongside him Mr H A Witt of Mason Texas will be assistant principal He aims to complete a oe at the Teachers College by summer’s end The State Board of Education fixed pupil apportionment at fourteen dollars per scholastic year Stamford’s local apportionment this year is reported as 1400 County superintendents urge parents to transfer children before August first and to do so by letter or personal visit The text notes required procedures for requests to transfer services
Herman Mueller, 68, a long time resident born in Germany, died Friday night at his Vernon home after a brief illness including paralysis and high blood pressure. He settled in this area twenty years ago, leaving a widow and four sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held Saturday at Sagerton Lutheran Church with interment at Highland Cemetery. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
