Big Wesley Brotherhood revival to open in old West Texas League park

The Wesley Brotherhood plans a ten day to two week open air revival starting July 26 at the old West Texas League park. Rev. R. A. Stewart of St. John's Methodist will preach with music directed by a prominent leader. Attendance efforts include door to door outreach and citywide cooperation for a spiritual awakening in Stamford.

Christian S. S. Enters For Haskell People

The Haskell Sunday school defeated Stamford by several hundred points in an attendance contest. About 100 Haskell members, led by Rev. Forrester, joined around 125 Stamford members and eight visitors at Colbert River ranch for a day of activities. Rev. M. B. Harris taught the morning lesson, then Rev. Forrester preached at afternoon services. A barbecue lunch followed lunch offerings.

Rotary Club Pays Tribute to R. L. Haynie

Stamford Rotary Club honors Robert Lee Haynie born October 5 1870 in Grimes County Texas. He moved to Stamford in 1904 joining Penick Hughes Co and became a leading progressive businessman and faithful civic and church participant. He embodied Rotary ideals and ethics and was devoted to family. He died July 11 1926.

R L Haynie Dies In Stamford At 55

R L Haynie vice president of Penick Hughes Company died of apoplexy at his Stamford home Sunday at age 55. He had led local development through Chamber of Commerce Rotary and highway projects including the Texas Transcontinental Trail before his death. Funeral service Monday at 4 pm at his West Oliver Street home with Masons conducting burial in Highland Cemetery. He is survived by wife, daughter Miss Edna, sons Lloyd Jeff and Vibert who is in the navy, plus sisters Mrs G F E White and Mrs M H Stoneham.

Encampment Opens at Lueders Campgrounds on Brazos

The fourth annual Lueders Baptist Encampment began at the Clear Fork Brazos campgrounds Tuesday night with Dr. Walter Alexander of Rock Hill S C giving a brief address. About fifty tents were set by nightfall as campers arrived and more joined Wednesday amid improving grounds and new shaded areas. Walter Jackson of Abilene organized study classes with most faculty present and fishing crowds appeared as campers arrived Tuesday afternoon.

Dallas attorney general hopeful visits Stamford

Thos. S. Christopher of Dallas, candidate for attorney general, spoke in Stamford on Wednesday to promote his candidacy. He is a West Texan born near Merkle and an alumnus of Simmons University in Abilene.

Aspermont Painter Dies After Auto Crash

T J Williams about 35 a painter of Aspermont died in Stamford Sanitarium from injuries after an automobile wreck near Aspermont Sunday. Another injured man was treated in Aspermont. Williams body prepared for burial. rumors followed his death but his identity was confirmed by Dr Dallas Southard.

Hamlin Fiddler Wins 60 Prize In Fiddlers Contest

Buck Koonce of Hamlin won first prize of 60 in the final round of the old fiddlers contest held with the American Legion Fourth of July Celebration. Alva Anderson of Stamford took second and O S Cutbirth of Stamford took third. The finals were postponed from Wednesday due to rain and the E P James shows remained through the week as a large crowd enjoyed the closing Saturday night.

Stamford to Aid In Piping Water To Encampment

Stamford will bear its part of the cost of building a water line to reach the Leaders encampment grounds. The Chamber of Commerce directors decided to carry out a long-standing contract and begin a fundraising campaign soon. The pipeline is to be completed in time for next year’s encampment. Lueberg recently contributed to cover part of the water line cost.

Twelve Converts at Post Revival at Ke tron Methodist Church

Twelve persons were converted at outdoor revival meetings at Ke tron Post Methodist Church. Eleven joined the church and one was baptized as Rev. L. W. Walker of the Stamford circuit led the two week revival. Mrs. J. E. Massey and Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton Wright assisted and plan an Epworth League Friday. Walker opens two week revival at Morris Chapel with large crowds.

Dr. Alexander Addresses Stamford Rotary Club

Dr Walter Alexander, Rotarian and principal speaker for the Leeders Baptist En campment, spoke at the Stamford Rotary Club luncheon. A L Buster led as president and Hamilton Wright acted as secretary. Bernard Bryant paid tribute to RB I Haynie who died Sunday. L Bzlarche spoke on the retail grocery business.
