Forty Youngsters Compete In Stamford Fishing Tournament
Forty youngsters aged six to twelve took part at College Lake northeast of Stamford for a small fry fishing contest sponsored by the Stamford Chamber of Commerce athletic committee. Heavy rain postponed the event from June 2 but did not dampen enthusiasm as competitors used cane poles and homemade baits. Charles Young won first in the perch class and several others received prizes including minnows, tackle boxes, a reel, a minnow bucket, and Nancy Cromwell a flash light in the girls division.

Stanford's Company M of the 142nd Infantry, Stamford National Guard, is the largest unit in the Third Battalion with 89 enlisted men and six officers during summer encampment at Fort Hood. Maj. Gen. Carl Phinney leads as mission commander. Capt Jim Lindsey commands the company. The 142nd regiment will conduct a four day bivouac next week to apply this week's training as they rotate through ranges and platoon tactics. Stamford Man to Design Dow Plant in Rotterdam
Former Stamford citizen Robert L. Bryant will sail with his wife and sons from New York to Rotterdam on July 22 aboard the SS Nieuw Amsterdam. He will supervise construction of a Dow plant in Rotterdam harbor to supply Europe, staying on to startup and train Dutch staff. Bryant, a 1943 Texas A and M chemical engineering graduate, has worked for Dow since 1950 after serving in the Pacific. The family has lived at Lake Jackson. They plan to remain after construction for operation until local workers can take over.

Youth Injured When Run Over by Tractor
Kenneth Parker, 12, son of Mr and Mrs J D Parker of Peacock, suffered a broken pelvis when a tractor ran over him on July 6.
