No Headway Toward Proposed Water District
Stamford and Haskell councils remain deadlocked on creating a joint water district for Paint Creek Reservoir development. A Sunday session in Haskell, urged by James S. Guieke of the State Board of Water Engineers, yielded no progress. The June 12 Austin hearing on Stamford’s impoundment request has produced no report, with a 20 day wait for possible joint planning. Stamford also pledged full cooperation and proposed permit transfer to a district if formed.

Funeral Service Held Wednesday For Mrs Phipps
Mrs. Emma Arledge Phipps 8 2, Stamford resident, died Sunday in Tahlequah Oklahoma after a stroke. She was born November 27 1867 in Rockdale Milam County and married April 5 1883. Survivors include two sons two daughters sixteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Burial was at Highland cemetery following a Kinney Funeral Chapel service conducted by Rev Marion Conditt.

Construction of New Anson Co-op Gin Nears Finish
Clifton Good, manager, says the Farmers Co-op Gin at Anson will complete this week with installation of new machinery to begin shortly. Work on the prefabricated steel and sheet metal structure started last Wednesday. New equipment arriving this week should be installed in three to four weeks. The plant will handle about six to seven bales per hour, roughly 75 bales per twelve hours.

Contract Awarded In Improvement of Anson Lake
The City Council announced a contract for enlarging Anson Lake at a cost of 16285. Work will raise the lake by three and a half feet, starting in about ten days, increasing capacity by about 80 percent. The city also secured State Board permission to impound an extra 1000 acre feet from the watershed.

Mobile X Ray Unit Planned for TB Survey in City
Plans outline a mobile X ray unit to visit Stamford August 15 at the city auditorium as part of Jones County duties. Anson dates August 1 through 10 and Hamlin August 12 through 15 are set. Last year 4406 chest X rays in Jones County found 41 definite TB, 32 suspicious, and 41 with non-tubercular chest conditions.

Johnny Bryant Undergoes Major Back Surgery in Dallas
Johnny Bryant of Hamlin underwent a serious operation in Dallas for removal of a herniated disc between the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae at Maylor Hospital Tuesday morning.
