The Texas Cowboy Reunion grand parade on Friday drew a large holiday crowd and featured veteran cowboys, cowgirls, bands, and floats. City Drug Store won best commercial entry for a yellow brown fountain float promoting a $50,000 chocolate advert. Anson Lions Club earned best out of town float with a Star Hotel miniature staged for the first Cowboy Christmas Ball.

Chester L. May of Dallas, vice president and general manager of Community Natural Gas, attended the Texas Reunion Friday and Saturday. A veteran natural gas man, May has supported West Texas progress, helping thousands in small cities share the resource. Over 2000 Letters Mailed Under Reunion Cachet
Letters bearing the Texas Cowboy Reunion cachet were mailed from Stamford on July 2. Mrs. Bargery Bailey oversaw the cachet booth at the Bunkhouse and stamped a letter to the President of the United States first, then to Vice President Garner. Others addressed included King Edward VII of England and Governor Alfred of Texas, with 1400 sent to Texans and stamps sent to England, Norway, and Canada.

The 41st District of Rotary International will hold a one day assembly in Stamford Monday with over 100 delegates from West Texas. Under District Governor Fred Wemple of Midland sessions start at 10 am in the Methodist church and a noon luncheon will be served by the Missionary Society. Pioneer Resident of Stamford Area Honored On Birthday
D. H. Decker, a Jones county pioneer 79 on June 25, celebrated with a family reunion at the Stamford area home four miles east of Stamford on June 28. He moved there in 1889 and has been active in good health. His wife died in 1920 and nine children grew to adulthood, with three since passing. Governor Alfred spoke at the Texas Legion convention in Stamford with heavy rain reducing attendance. Jack Thorman of Levelland won election as division commander for the Fifth Division, succeeding Floyd Sloan of Amarillo, at the joint Fifth Division and 17th district Legion and Auxiliary meeting. Resolutions urged a 1957 state convention in San Angelo, boosted VA staff, and supported a Fifth Division veterans hospital in West Texas. Attorney General William McCraw delivered the Sunday address at First Baptist Church while the governor headlined events including a parade and rodeo on Saturday afternoon.

Sourdough Biscuit Contest Ends In Tie At Reunion
The sourdough biscuit contest judged by Governor Allred ended in a tie. Two identical Stetson hats were awarded by the governor for the best biscuits to Richard Bolt, wagon cook for the 6666 chuck wagon, and Lee Kelly, wagon cook for the S. M. S. Spur ranch wagon. Walt Cousins praised the biscuits as unbeatable.

Attendance Rises at Seventh Annual Texas Cowboy Reunion
The Seventh Annual Texas Cowboy Reunion closed with 21 804 paid rodeo admissions, up from 10 793 last year, all increase on July 2 and 3. Officials estimate town attendance ranged around 60 000 to 65 000 over the three days, with gross receipts about two thousand dollars higher than 1935.
