Levi Bowen a 30s Black man working at Stamford Cotton Oil Mill was shot to death by Lawyer L D Gilbert a 26 year old Black man. The killing occurred Saturday at 2 30 pm near the oil mill after a dispute over a woman. Gilbert surrendered to the police and is held for bond denial after County Attorney Gilbert Smith’s investigation.
Dallas to Stamford caravan sponsors 50 Dallas leaders and officials for the annual Texas Cowboy Reunion and Rodeo. Delegates include H A Gulledge Andy Anderson Chester May Walter Cousins Henry Dorsey Howard Hayden Ben Critz Perry Davis John Higginbotham James K Wilson J O Spring George Plummer Julius Schepps Marion Newman and more. They depart Dallas Friday for the event.
Martha Louise Rine 77 died Tuesday at 6 30 pm at her daughter Mrs W T Foster’s home after a lingering illness Funeral was held at Hamlin cemetery Wednesday at 3 pm Rev P C Williams and Rev Sam Morris officiated Kinney Funeral Home directed services She was born in Tennessee November 22 1859 and lived in Hamlin for years Survivors include six daughters a son Guy Aine twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren
Stamford resident J. W. Christian entered the hospital on Monday for a major operation. The case draws local attention as family and friends await word on his condition.
Governor James V. Allred will speak at the Fifth Division and Seventeenth District American Legion and Auxiliary convention on the Post Office plaza at 6 30 Saturday evening. The Vernon D Hart Post No 100 hosts the event with a program including a 6 20 concert by the Hardin Simmons Cowboy band and a parade for the Texas Cowboy Reunion.
Dr. Ike Hudson finishing his internship in Los Angeles will join his father F. E. Hudson for two weeks of active service at Fort Logan Colorado. Both serve in the Medical Reserve with F. E. Hudson as captain and Ike Hudson as first lieutenant. They also plan a few days of fishing and vacation.

Exchange Club members and guests held a fish fry near the Bunkhouse last Friday night after a recent contest, with Grady Bowdry leading the losing side and catching many fish for the supper. Approximately 60 attendees enjoyed the event.
Attractive young women chosen as sponsors for the Texas Cowboy Reunion will ride in parades compete for prizes and attend social events over the three day celebration. Preliminary judging Monday and final judging Saturday will determine prize winners including saddle boots and riding kits. Sponsors arrive Thursday with gatherings at the Stamford Inn and a sponsors ball at the Country Club.
A three day program for the seventh annual Texas Cowboy Reunion unfolds in Stamford with rodeo contests, oldtime cowboy gatherings, dances, parades and a grand parade featuring cowboys and sponsors. Activities run Thursday through Saturday, with notable attendees and multiple bands, showcasing the statewide centennial celebration.
Floyd and Reuben Lindsay, former Stamford men with an Abilene drug business, open Lind er Drug No 2 on the west side of the square Thursday morning. John son, a registered Stamford pharmacist, will be prescription clerk. Don Campbell and Rex Reid manage the fountain. Formal opening is set for Saturday July 11.
