Stamford Guardsmen Prepare for Two Week Camp at Hood
Fifty five National Guardsmen from the 36th Infantry Division set out Sunday for a two week summer maneuvers at North Fort Hood Texas joining the division at Central Texas military reservation. The unit will assemble in Abilene before proceeding to Hood with a return expected around 11 am July 26. Commander Capt Arnold Wedeking leads the battalion with Major General Selden Simpson noting a multi pronged training program and a shift to equal maintenance scoring.

Longest Parade In Years Sends Reunion Winging
The Texas Cowboy Reunion opened with its largest parade in years. Two miles long, it lasted over an hour and featured nearly a dozen floats and 15 riding groups. Lt. Gov. Preston Smith rode with Reunion president W. G. Swenson as Stamford hosted events. Winners included Old Glory 4-H Club and Stamford HS clubs in multiple categories with local businesses taking top commercial honors.

New Building Presbyterians Set Aug. 18 For Opening Bids
Bids for a new Central Presbyterian Church home are due at 2 p m August 18 with construction likely to start after September first. Architects Tittle and Luther of Abilene lead the project with Dick Rowland as building chair and Dr Tony Selmon as construction and plans chair. Two Stolen Cars Halted By Police Last Weekend
Stamford law enforcement helped arrest two airmen in Abilene linked to stolen cars during the rodeo period. One driver, Lawrence T. LaValley, faced car theft charges after a 1964 Thunderbird was traced to Stamford. A separate arrest involved a 1956 Chevrolet taken from Roundup Hall during the rodeo dance. Police also investigated two burglaries, including a fuel station cash and card theft and a school band hall theft of drum equipment.
