Cowboy Entries Flood Stamford Rodeo Reunion

Cowboys from West Texas flock to Stamford for the three day Reunion rodeo drawing large crowds and a record entry list. First entrants include Gaston Brock Abilene and Alonzo Mayfield Aspermont with 150 entries by Monday morning.

Oldtime Cowboys Gather for Texas Cowboy Reunion Opener

Prominent early arrivals include Frank Rhoades of Throckmorton and Jake Raines of Spur among veterans welcomed by Reunion management. Jim Chinn from Cocoro New Mexico, former wagon boss of the U S Ranch, leads distant entrants. Badges go to 422 prior registrants with 25 new ones joining Sunday night. Twenty one cowboys entered the calf roping contest before Monday.

Ten Chuck Wagons Arrive at Reunion Grounds

Four-Sixes drove mules eighty five miles from the 6666 Ranch near Guthrie to join the Texas Cowboy Reunion grounds. George Humphreys supervised with a group of 6666 cowboys and fellow outfits include B-Bar Ranch Breckenridge and S.M.S. outfits from Throckmorton to Sweetwater. Bewley's Chuck Wagon from Fort Worth arrived Monday to participate in the first day’s program.

Prizes Announced for Tex as Cowboy Reunion Events

About 1400 dollars in cash prizes plus numerous special awards will be distributed during the three day Tex as Cowboy Reunion rodeo and related contests. Prizes include saddle boots spurs hats and tailored outfits donated by firms and individuals from Dallas Stamford Nocona Graham San Angelo Lubbock Padgitt and others. Public Address System Installed at Cowboy Reunion Rodeo Arena

A new public address system was installed at the Abilene area Cowboy Reunion Rodeo Arena this year. It was tested with music and announcements Sunday, proving exceptionally clear. A local Abilene concern owns the system. An updated judges stand and press stand improve crowd and press access.

Stamford Scouts Assist At Reunion Grounds

More than fifty Stamford Scout volunteers from Troops 40 41 and 42 will manage car parking and operate four soda stands inside the Reunion grounds, delivering constant service to attendees in the grounds and grandstands.

Rodeo Judge Frank Rhoades Heads Texas Cowboy Reunion

Frank Rhoades of Throckmorton presides over Oldtime Cowboys and judges rodeo contests. He serves as president of the Texas Cowboy Reunion Association, open to cowboys active at least 35 years ago. Rhoades won bronze bustin’ at a 1898 reunion in Haskell and now works as ranchman and cattle inspector while riding with younger cowboys.

Five sponsors named for finals in judging Monday

Five sponsors were picked at the preliminary judging Monday morning. The three prize winners will be announced at the rodeo arena Tuesday afternoon. The list names sponsors and the girls from towns such as Aspermont Big Spring Graham Hamlin Stamford Abilene Lubbock Odessa and many others. Secretary Lois Green urges locals to list rooms for Cowboy Reunion, phone 44.

Grand Parade Of Reunion Will Be Tuesday At Noon

The grand parade to open at high noon Tuesday July 4 marks a peak in the Texas Cowboy Reunion with Mayor Charles E. Turner of Dallas leading a long mounted contingent. The route runs from Oliver Street to Walker Smith Co with bands, sponsors, scouts, chuck wagons, and floats.

Record Attendance Opens Texas Cowboy Reunion

The Fourth Annual Texas Cowboy Reunion opened at City Auditorium with crowds streaming from streets and anticipated three days of events. Organizers expect about 40 000 attendees over the weekend as officials report improved crowd control, new gate entrances, and two daily rodeo performances plus a July Fourth maneuvers demonstration by the 131st Field Artillery.
