National Guard Company Leaves for Fifteen Day Encampment

Co. K 142 Infantry Texas National Guard departs for a two week encampment in Mabry Austin. The group entrained Wed night with full army pay, lodging and clothing provided. Capt. Emmet W. Hardwick and several noncommissioned officers lead the travelers with a roster of privates and corporals listed.

Moore Family Attends Western Assembly Encampment

Rev. and Mrs. A. L. Moore with children Martha Alice Allen and Miss Maxine Alexander left for Fayetteville Arkansas to attend the Western Assembly encampment of the Methodist Church at Mt Sequoyah for two weeks. He helped locate the grounds and now serves as a trustee making the Assembly highly significant to him and the family.

Seventeenth District Convention to Meet in Abilene

The Seventeenth District convention of the American Legion is set for Abilene on Sunday July 11 with leaders planning to mobilize Saturday night. Abilene aims to surpass the Jones County gathering in Stamford on April 1 led by Hon. A. Owsley. Hedberg Special to Enter Abilene Auto Races

Norman York of Hedberg Garage tuned the Hedberg Special Chrysler Racer for Abilene July 4 races. York may not drive, seeking Jim Reeder or Dick Calhoun to race while York acts as mechanician. The car, number 40, won second at Brownwood last month and is expected to contend for money. it will be Stamford's lone entry.

Booth Memorial Fund Grows For Locketts Mission Return

Pledges and cash pour into the Booth Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church to aid Dr. and Mrs. B L Lockett’s return to West Africa. The fund honors Mrs. J M Booth, Simmons University field secretary who died in a Dallas area auto crash. The Locketts, with ten years in West Africa, plan to sail early January after teaching and family losses, with Dr. Lockett training at Baylor Hospital in Dallas prior to deployment to Oghomoxo.

Window Card Order Aids West Texas Chamber Campaign

The American job printing department produced 5,000 11x14 inch window cards for the West Texas Chamber of Commerce last week using about 500 pounds of 6-ply cardboard. The cards promote moving picture showings and farm lectures by Col. C C French and B M Whitaker. Printing all cards locally saved campaign costs.

A Good Citizen Honored In New Light Community

Fine rains bring relief to surrounding localities

Rain fell across several areas easing drought. Reports say 16 inches of moisture Thursday morning and showers from Lueders to Bunker Hill with rains north and south of Stamford. Corn and maize will benefit though cotton needs less rain. crops described as clean and ready for rain.
