Tractor trailer theft ring uncovered in Stamford case
Jones County Sheriff Gil Gillilan says a theft ring involving at least three or four nonlocal suspects from Dallas Fort Worth area operated in Stamford and surrounding areas. One man, Joe Bob Bruce of Mesquite, faces felony theft charges while another suspect remains at large in Wichita County Jail awaiting arrest. Vehicles valued around 175000. several trucks and trailers were recovered in Stamford Anson Lagerton and near Tuxedo. Police identify a Kenworth cabover and a flatbed trailer sought for return.

Blood donors brave ice to give at cold blood drive
Donors braved mid-20s temps and icy streets as the Bloodmobile fell short of its 90 unit goal with 76 volunteers. Stamford High School contributed 15 students, including Gary Neuman and Mark Reaves, forming over a fifth of the total helpers. Among others volunteering were Richard Harrison, Pauline Gillilan, Lucille Bean, Ken Roberson, and Father Stephen White. Two deferrals reduced the output to 74 units.

County cotton farmer heads National Cotton Council for 1980
Herman A. Propst of Anson Jones County was named president of the National Cotton Council at its 42nd annual meeting in New Orleans. Propst, a former council director and longtime cotton producer, leads an officers slate that includes Lewis S. Morris and Samuel B. Hollis as new vice presidents and Gerald B. Brewer as vice president again. He is a World War II veteran, active in civic affairs, and operates a farm with cotton, wheat and livestock.

Debbie Goodrich a 29 year old early childhood program teacher at Tri County Education Coop in Stamford has been named February's Artist of the Month.
