Scout Exposition At National Guard Armory Draws 300
More Than 300 persons attended the scout exposition featuring eight units of Boy and Cub Scouts at the National Guard armory. The event included costumed Indian dances by the Tankawa Tribe of Abilene led by scoutmaster John Lanier, rope making, games, and ceremonies. Booths earned blue, red and white ribbons based on individual standards. Judges included H. D. Norris, Giles Bradford, Joe Antillery, and Dick Elam. Special visitors were Henry McGinty and Jim Culwell. Units participating ranged from Troop 44 Rule to Troop 40 Stamford Pack 39 and 41. Kenneth Lafferty called the event a grand success.

Mrs. Simpson's Father Dies in Denton
H. P. Knight of Denton, father of Mrs. J. W. Simpson of this city, died in his sleep at the family home in Denton on Thursday night after suffering a heart attack the previous Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Simpson attended the funeral in Denton on Saturday morning. Mr. Simpson, a high school principal, returned to Stamford while Mrs. Simpson stayed longer with her mother.

National Guard Company to Receive Silver Certificate
National Guard Company M of Stamford, 142nd Infantry, will be awarded a silver certificate for Excellent rating on the Federal Inspection held October 4. Lt Col Ralph Kreiger will present the certificate. Arnold Wedeking has received a commission as second lieutenant and will lead the anti tank platoon. The unit, about 80 enlisted men, invites local youth to join and notes six to eight members are testing for infantryman’s badge. Four officers already hold the badge.
