The Mother’s March for the March of Dimes will be held in Stamford tonight with PTA members canvassing homes. Local clubs join the drive and a Stamford High School talent show is set for Wednesday at the Grand Theater with tickets 50 cents. proceeds go to the March of Dimes. Entries close Friday with top acts invited to a telethon the next Saturday via an Abilene station. Stamford Lanes bowling day Friday funds the charity with prizes for top bowled series and proceeds exceeding expenses donated.

Stanford Production Credit to Hold Saturday Meeting
Annual stockholders meeting of the Stanford Production Credit Association takes place Saturday at the Roundup Hall on the Texas Cowboy Reunion Grounds in Stamford. The session starts at 2 pm with C G Burson Sr of Haskell presiding, a past year report by J L Hill Jr, and a brief address by W H Calkins of Interstate Credit Bank. The association serves farmers and ranchers across eight counties with Stamford as headquarters and field offices in several others.

Carhartt Plans Stamford Expansion Adds 35 Jobs
Carhartt of Texas will add 35 employees at its Stamford plant starting next Monday boosting weekly payroll by about 1 750. New machines and a production line for ladies blouses will expand output from the current 77 workers across two lines. The firm currently ships finished blouses to Dallas after local packaging and has operated at the site since December 1963 with a three year lease in the former Penick Hughs Building now owned by A C Humphrey.

Church Fire Destroys Back Wing in Stamford
An early morning blaze at the Assembly of God Church on Compton Street in Stamford severely damaged the rear classrooms and meeting rooms. Fire Chief Dick Rowland said the fire started near the central heating plant, burned slowly, and collapsed part of the roof. Damage exceeds $20,000 with full assessment pending.

Stokes Services Held at First Baptist Stamford
Funeral services for Robert Lee Stokes 82 of Stamford were held at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Southerland officiating. Burial followed at Elmwood Memorial Park Abilene. Stokes founder of Stamford Insurance Agency and former Winters Lions Club president survived by wife Amy and seven daughters, one son, 14 grandchildren, four great grandchildren.

Walter Bennett Dies at Anson
Walter II Bennett aged 83 died early Monday at an Anson vest home after a months long illness. His wife died January 5 this year. Funeral was held Tuesday at Biret Baptist Church Anson with Rev Bob Eklund officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. He was born February 4 1841 in Mississippi and survived by three sons Homer Fred of Stamford Rue of Anson, three brothers Joe Claude Hue of Anson, three sisters Mrs Daisy Jones Stamford Mrs Rice Moss and Mrs Zea Moon Anson, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Stamford city council took no action on reducing pool hall age limits from 18 despite H H Corley’s request.
