Stamford Farm Loan Association reports over million in loans
The Stamford National Farm Loan Association announced it has loaned more than 1,000,000 since 1917. At a Tuesday meeting at the Texas Cowboy Reunion Grounds, officers and directors were elected, with W. F. Bean named president and J. F. McCulloch among new directors. The annual report cites 1937 activity by the Federal Land Bank and Land Bank Commissioner loans totaling over eight million dollars in Texas.

Two New Producers Add To Enthusiasm In Avoca Oil Field
The Iron Mountain Humble No. 8 topped free oil at 3184 feet to become the field nine producer. Humble No. 2 Hellums flowed at 140 barrels per hour after being tubed through. Several wells in the Avoca area are in various stages, with other tests planned and a 24,500 foot wildcat to be drilled near Stamford’s southeast area by the Iron Mountain company.

Dr. A D McReynolds prominent Stamford physician and civic leader died suddenly from a heart attack while talking with a patient in his office Thursday about 3 30 pm. He had long heart issues and had recovered from a prior severe attack. He was about 62 and practiced medicine 34 years. Survived by his wife. He led civic activities and chaired the Central Christian church board, and for the past year served as president of the Stamford Chamber of Commerce. Funeral arrangements were by Kinney.

Death claims Lem Nichols child in Winters
Little Lanelle Nichols daughter of Mr and Mrs Lem Nichols of Winters died at 3 00 am Tuesday at the family home in Winters. Funeral services were held at Kinney Funeral Chapel Tuesday afternoon at 440 pm conducted by J G Malphurs minister of the Haskell Church of Christ. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery. The child born January 18 1932 had been frail all her life. The family had lived in Spur before moving to Winters. Survived by twin sister Barbara and grandparents Mr and Mrs N S Leavitt and Mrs Nichols.

War Chest funds refunded after city dispute
Stamford's War Chest donations were returned to contributors after expenses and attorneys' fees near $500. The city had received the headquarters building in the final settlement and the council voted to reimburse the Chamber of Commerce. The chamber then refunded the contributions and the building is undergoing repairs for rental once a suitable tenant is found.

City approves lighting upgrade in business district
City council approved a plan with West Texas Utilities to install 12 new white way lamps in the business district and revise light and power rates. The net monthly electric bill will rise about $100, with new lighting to begin April 1 and completion expected by mid March.

County Judge Reviews Jones County Fiscal Outlook
Judge Burleson told the Stamford Club the 13 000 000 tax base reflects valuations under appeal in district court. He noted valuations rose by about one million from last year, county expenditures were minimal, and current year income is estimated at 150 000 with 85 percent collection. Road machinery value is about 75 000 and road miles total 1550 to 1600 as debt shrinks.
