Stamford Farmer Joins First National Bank as Loan Officer Trainee

Jim Astin, 28, of Stamford, will begin as Financial Loan Officer trainee at First National Bank of Stamford on Monday. A 1974 Texas A&M grad with a BS in Agri-economics, he has farmed locally since graduation. He serves on the Stamford City Council and belongs to the Stamford Exchange Club and St John’s Methodist Church.

Audit Presented to Stamford Council on 1980-81 Year

The Stamford City Council received the fiscal year 1979 80 audit for the Oct 1 1979 Sept 30 1980 period at its first 1981 meeting. James E Rodgers Co CPA Hamlin presented the report noting regulatory compliance and internal controls improvements especially in short term investments. Rodgers praised adherence to prior recommendations with travel reporting singled out for future enhancement. The council will vote on approval after review. In other business Lone Star Gas rates rise 7.68 percent effective Feb 5, and HB McDonald lease extension of 15 years was approved, with lease renewal set to Feb of this year.

Tri-Area Livestock Show set for Saturday at Showbarn

The Tri-Area Livestock Show returns for the 25th time Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Tri Area Livestock Association Showbarn with 326 entries across 11 divisions. Judging starts with swine and rabbits, followed by broilers, beef cattle and sheep. a midday association meeting at 1:15 p.m. will cover the annual financial report and two new directors.

SBA Schedules Local Drought Recovery Meeting Tuesday

The Small Business Administration will hold a special meeting at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Stamford High School auditorium. It targets farmers ranchers and small businesses harmed by 1980 drought and heat. F J Villalobos Texas Disaster Coordinator announced Panhandle and West Texas sessions. SBA reps will discuss loan programs and eligibility requirements.

Project Council launches VIP building fund drive

Stamford VIP project faces spring completion hopes as the Council aims for a 150000 goal. Treasurer Vera Mills reports 45000 to 50000 more is needed to finish dining and kitchen areas first, with early contributions totaling about 25000. Building team includes Sam Baize supervisor Carl Cooper metal, Crider Halt concrete, Don Haynes designer and consultant from West Texas Utilities.

First baby of 1981 born to the Truongs

Mr and Mrs Thuy Truong welcome Genny Hong Truong as Stamford Memorial Hospital’s first 1981 birth. She arrived at 5 a.m. on January 2, weighing seven pounds four ounces. Dr E J Hawkins delivered the infant. The family lives at 413 South McKinley Stamford. Truong works at Stamford Cotton Oil Mill and Mrs Truong at Russell Newman Manufacturing Company.
