Cotton Harvest Rapid As Fair Weather Persists
With continued clear weather farmers work from dawn to night as gins run nonstop. The cotton is mostly stripped with ball-pullers still active. trailers are scarce. A Corinth fire disrupted lint cleaners delaying operations 30 to 48 hours, shifting load to Stamford Avoca and other area gins. Most gins exceed 100 bales per 24 hours and farmers expect the bulk harvested in a week to ten days. Government grading delays continue amid heavy ginning.

More than 61 entries will be judged in downtown Stamford on Saturday at the local FFA Live stock Show. Jimmie Laurie of Roby will judge all entries, with the event starting about 8 a.m. at the southeast corner of the square. Weldon Holbrooks says about 30 boys are expected to participate, with classes in sheep, breeding beef, beef steers, commercial calves, swine, broilers and capons. The broiler and capon show will be in the city auditorium.

CofC Office Now Issuing Poll Tax Receipts
The Chamber of Commerce and County Clerk’s office offer poll tax receipts at the CofC office in Stam ford to spare a trip to Anson. Exemption forms are available for eligible voters aged 21 plus. receipts are mailed from the County office. People over 60 do not have to register in towns under 10 000 population.

Funeral for Morris Jones Held at Anson Methodist Church
Funeral services for Morris Jones, 49, office manager for Jones County ASC, were held Wednesday at the Methodist Church in Anson. Mr. Jones died of a heart attack Tuesday morning at Anson General Hospital at 7 40 a m.

One-Car Crash Near Sagerton Claims Life And Injures Four
A one car crash near Sagerton on December 23 killed 16 year old Janice Jones and injured four others. Driver James Wendeborn 19 of Rule suffered a broken back and lacerations. Passengers Lloyd Hatfield 18 of Aspermont Martha Green 24 of Lampasas and Diane Dunlap 16 of Rochester sustained multiple injuries. The 1955 Mercury left the highway near Lagerton and rolled at least five times. Emergency surgery was performed at Stamford Sanitarium and Hendrick Hospital Abilene through Christmas Day.

Grand Jury Fails To Report Tuesday Night
