Funeral service for Mrs. J. J. Kahout age 73 was held Saturday at 2 50 p m at Swenson Avenue Baptist Church. She died December 27 at the home of her son John Kahout north of Stamford. Burial was in Highland cemetery. Survivors include three sons and three daughters, fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Post commander J M McDonald and Auxiliary president Mrs Dudley Duncan welcomed guests as doughnuts coffee games and music provided entertainment. Work is nearly done on a new market building at the corner of South Swenson and Ro tan streets to house Market Poultry & Egg Co. Formal opening is planned for Saturday January 12 with Tom Chatwell of Abilene as manager. Ben Cobb died at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Stamford home of his daughter Mrs. Elvis Nash after months of ill health. Funeral held Friday at North Side Baptist Church. burial in Fairview cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Born April 14, 1877 in Louisiana, he moved to Jones County from Merkel and lived with his children. Survived by two daughters Mrs. Elvis Nash of Stamford and Mrs. Alma Fowler of San Antonio, three sons Leonard of Corpus Christi Abie Ray of Penwell and Bennie of Stamford, ten grandchildren, and half-brother Lee Kinzy of Stamford.

War's End Reduces Stamford Post Office Receipts in 1945
Postal receipts for 1945 totaled 42314.40, down from 45165 in 1944, as stated by postmaster R. C. Thomas. The drop is blamed mainly on reduced overseas mail after the war. Stamford’s office became first class on July 1 of the previous year and boosters hope to maintain it unless receipts fall further.
