Stamford area farmer Leland Nauert asked the city council for a water source for a housing development southeast of Stamford along Texas 6 near FM 704. The council tabled the request for further study of possible options.

Shrine Circus Returns to Stamford in May

The Shrine Circus comes to Stamford May 22 at the Texas Cowboy Reunion arena direct from Abilene and Wichita Falls with acts from four corners of the globe in three rings for two hours. Armando the Spain hand balancing master and the Portugal Brothers on the high wire headlining. Local Shriners will contact residents as tickets go on sale. Stamford merchants sponsor free day for local grade schoolers.

Stamford Academic Meet Draws 1200 Students from 40 Schools

Hundreds of students from grades two through twelve will converge on Stamford this Saturday for the Stamford Academic Meet. More than 40 West Texas schools are participating, with junior high and elementary events new this year. Contests run 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Stamford High, Reynolds School, and Orient Street Church of Christ, followed by an awards ceremony. Participants include Abi lene, Andrews, Anson, Archer City, Bangs, Breckenridge, Christoval, Cisco, Childress, Cooper High School Abilene, Cross Plains, Lubbock High, Lubbock Bayless, Lubbock Coronado, Lincoln Junior High Abilene, Merkel, Munday, Olney, Paint Rock, Quanah, Reagan County at Big Lake, Robert Lee, Rochester, Rider High Wichita Falls, Rotan, Sweetwater, San Angelo Central, Windthurst, Wink, Woodson, Rule, Seymour, and Wall.

Texas Cowboy Reunion Dates Set for July 1 3 4

The 48th annual Texas Cowboy Reunion will run July 1, 3, and 4 featuring the West Texas parade rodeo and reunion. The event highlights the famed Western celebration and draws participants and spectators from across the region.

Near-empty field as April 1 elections loom

Filing deadlines approach with few candidates in city, school, and hospital races. By March 1, city and school deadlines loom at 5 p.m. with hospital five days later. Only three hospital incumbents filed. School board has two candidates. incumbents on the slate are not running. City races show one announced candidate for Place 2, Travis Horton, as Weldon Holbrooks retires. Other incumbents Bill Reed and Marvin Massey hold Place 3 and Place 1, with Massey noncommittal and Reed unavailable for comment.

Banquet honors Stenholm next month in Dallas area

Tickets on sale for a Charles Stenholm Appreciation Banquet on Saturday March 11 at 7 p.m. in St Ann's parish hall. Stenholm Democratic candidate for U S Congress seeks seat held by retiring Cong Omar Burleson. Tickets cost 10 dollars from supporters. Stamford Reunion Relays Set for March 24 at High School

The second annual Stamford Reunion Relays are scheduled for Good Friday March 24 at the high school track field with ex Bulldog athletes and fans helping. Honorary guest is Jerry Precit ex Bulldog star who later ran for the University of Texas. Former Bulldog coaches Gordon Wood and Bill Anderson plan to attend. Volleyball Benefit at Stamford High for Cancer Society

A weekend volleyball tournament at Stamford High School gym features up to twelve teams from Lubbock Munday and Wichita Falls with both men’s and women’s squads. Friday games start 6 30 p m and Saturday play begins 8 30 a m. Admission is free donations accepted for the American Cancer Society with concession proceeds also supporting the charity.

Snow Cancelled Circus Shows Rebooked for Sunday

The World Wide Jungle Wonders Wild Animal Circus, sponsored by Stamford Jaycees, postponed shows last Friday due to heavy snowfall. It is rescheduled for Sunday February 26 with a single performance at 3 30 p m on the VFW Grounds on the Anson Highway in Stamford.

Pinewood Derby Action Planned for Stamford Scouts

Stamford Cub Scouts from Pack 136 four dens plan a Pinewood Derby Monday evening February 27 at 7 p.m. in Stamford High School gym. Three judges will select the fastest and most attractive racing cars. Cub Scouts are urged to attend with parents.
