Bitsy Hill urges policy to boost farmers share

Bitsy Hill wife of the Texas attorney general told more than 300 at the Grand Theater rally that farmers need a bigger share of the food dollar. She urged a farm policy that encourages farmers and cited unity with the American Agriculture Movement.

Longtime Rotarians Honored at Stamford Ladies Night Banquet

Two Stamford Rotary Club members with decades of service were recognized at the annual ladies night banquet at the Lions Building. Honorees Francis and Cleburne Huston led years of club participation, with Huston recounting club history and noting his long tenure. Farabee earns Extension Service Man of the Year honor

State Senator Ray Farabee, representing the 30th District including Jones County, was unanimously chosen as Man of the Year by the District II Texas County Agricultural Extension Agents Association. He credits county extension agents for Texas crops and livestock gains and will receive the award at the association banquet in Lufkin this August.

Meeting to organize Tuxedo community homecoming

All persons interested in a Tuxedo homecoming are invited to a planning meeting at the Lion's Club Building in Stamford on Thursday February 23 at 7 40 pm. The session aims to plan a homecoming event to be held at a later date.

Newspaper drive aims to fund Stamford Day Care Center

Stamford Day Care Center board approved a March 3 5 newspaper drive to boost the center operational budget. C R Bellamy was elected president with new board members Father Steven White and others. Volunteers including Wade Petty and high school students will collect bundles March 4 and residents can drop papers March 3 5 at a grain trailer loaned by Carl Cooper beside Magazies Cafe.

National FFA Week Highlighted By 50th Anniversary

Stamford FFA chapter joins national celebration as National FFA Week begins February 18 marking the 50th anniversary of the organization. The theme FFA at 500 A GOLDEN PAST, a brighter future, emphasizes Learning By Doing and leadership. George Washington’s birthday is observed, honoring his role in promoting scientific farming practices. The FFA, founded in 1928, promotes citizenship and cooperative effort among vocational agriculture students with programs recognizing chapters and states through the FFA Foundation.

Snow Closes In Stamford With Brief Wednesday Snow

Stamford residents woke to a one to two inch snow blanket Tuesday night with clear skies earlier. Overnight 29 and high 38 forecast, snow unlikely to last long though slight moisture was recorded. A weekend thundershower adds to monthly and yearly totals. February rainfall remains 0.45 inches above normal of 2.14 inches.
