George Flournoy Former Police Chief Buried Sunday
Funeral service for George G. Flournoy longtime Stamford police chief and marshal was held Sunday at 3 p m at First Baptist church. He died Saturday at Stamford Sanitarium after a heart attack and had resigned November 24. Burial was in Fairview cemetery with Kinney and Corley Funeral home in charge. Flournoy, born April 16 1875 in Columbus Colorado County, served Stamford since 1900 except one year in Ranger. He helped organize the Texas Police Association and served as sergeant at arms. He is survived by his wife Lillie. daughter Mrs. Sarah Duncan. son George Flournoy Jr.. three grandchildren. five brothers.

S L West 75 Abilene real estate man and onion grower died Wednesday night. He was the father of Mrs. W H Terry of this city. Funeral services tentatively set for Friday in the Riker and Warren Memorial chapel. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Survivors include his wife a son Herman West of Hamby two daughters Mrs Terry and Mrs Henry Hall of Abilene seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

City Police Enjoy Quiet Christmas in Stamford
Stamford police reported a quiet Christmas weekend with only two arrests, far fewer than last year. Cafe operators noted scarce drunkenness, while traffic was lightly marred by a single early morning North Swenson crash and a car bus wreck near the Hamlin Stamford highways. two lives were lost but no injuries reported.

Stamford belle Mrs Billy Joe McKeever crowned Belle of the Ball at the Cowboy Christmas ball in Anson after competing with four cities. Runner up was Mrs Eugene Devers of Sweetwater. Attendees came from 20 states and five Texas cities. McKeever escorted by her husband wore pink taffeta with double bustle and pink rose corsage. A newborn son Edward Tracy Racco joined the Rasco family in Stamford on December 26.

Cpl. Donald P. Connally of the First Marine Division in Korea has been wounded and sent to a hospital in Osaka Japan. His parents Mr and Mrs B H Connally formerly of Stamford received a telegram saying the injury is not serious. His wife and sister are nurses in Abilene and Fort Worth respectively.

A $100,000 Stamford Independent School District bond election for building and equipment is scheduled for January 9. Wreck Claims Second Victim In Monday Collision
Two young spouses died from injuries after a Thursday 1:45 a.m. wreck near the Coca Cola Bottling Co. on the city outskirts. Ivan Robert Tiberghien 21 and Eloise Mays Tiberghien were married October 21 and left Anson for Antelope when the crash occurred. Mrs. Tiberghien died at 4:20 a.m. and her husband passed just before Christmas Day. J L Johnson of Spur survived in the other car and Rhea Tiberghien is recovering. Funeral services were held in Anson with burial at Mt. Hope cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Tiberghien were mourned in turn.

Allan Clarence Cox 47 died Saturday afternoon at Stamford Sanitarium from a heart attack stricken at his east Stamford home. He had suffered heart trouble for a year and managed Farmers Cooperative Grain in 1949. Survived by wife Mary Frances, two sons Ray and Walter, mother Mrs W. Cox, and two brothers. Funeral Sunday at St John’s Methodist with burial Highlands Cemetery.

The First Baptist Church of this city will mark its fiftieth anniversary with a New Year’s Eve service from 7:30 p m to after midnight. Stolen Ford Recovered in Portland Oregon
The 1950 Ford owned by Mr and Mrs Martin Huff was recovered in Portland Oregon on Wednesday afternoon. Jerry Bright a highway patrolman notified the Huff family. The car was stolen in El Paso between 10 p.m Sunday and 10:30 a.m Sunday. The driver was held for lacking a driver s license awaiting investigation. Portland officers contacted the Austin registration bureau to trace the car s theft.
