Stamford Bulldogs honored at big pep squad banquet

The Stamford Bulldogs football team, district champions two years running, were feted at a high school gym banquet with about 200 attendees. Guest speaker Pat Meyer praised the coaches, and gifts were presented to Coach Lee Walker, assistant H. S. Fitzgerald, and sponsor Mrs. Walker.

Nurses to Hold District Meeting Here

The Graduate Nurses Association of District 15 schedules its annual meeting at Stamford Sanitarium on December 29 at 2 p.m. Officers will be elected. Mrs. A Louise Wietren led the morning session and Mrs. Morgan Jones spoke in the afternoon. Miss Eva Bruce of Roscoe presided at the business meeting. Stamford attendees included Mrs. Kirk Gree ry, Mrs. H Fitzgerald, Mrs. Vincent Roach, Miss Jane Brown and Miss B Cole.

Weldon Walker to Lead Egypt Geophysical Expedition

Weldon Walker will join a Petty Geophysical Engineering Company crew bound for Egypt from New York City on December 21. He expects to be away several years and recently visited his parents Mr and Mrs J F Walker and his sister Mrs Roy Cochran in San Antonio before joining the party.

Five Tenants of Jones County to Receive Loans

Jones County is among 23 Texas counties chosen for tenant land purchase loans under the Bankhead-Jones Act. Clarence Syme of the Farm Security Administration announced five loans for Jones tenants at an average farm price of 7 500 dollars, based on tenancy prevalence, income-to-land price, and geography. Haskell County received the same quota.

Stamford Churches Will Cooperate in Christmas Giving

Stamford ministers met at the Methodist church to plan cooperative Christmas relief through United Charities. Each church will list needy families and provide supplies to R. C. Thomas to avoid overlap. The gathering closed with prayer and will resume next Monday in the Methodist church study.

PTA to Decide Attitude on School Dances at January Meeting

The PTA will vote on whether to recommend allowing use of Heh School gymnasium and Home Economics cottage for dancing and bridge games by high school students. Motion to table was made by Mrs. W. B. Harrison at Wednesday's meeting, with Mrs. C. M. Francis presiding. The program featured a recreation talk, a two act play by students, Christmas carols, and musical readings.

Christmas Program at First Baptist Church by Kindergarten Pupils

Fifteen kindergarten pupils under Mrs. Anna Dial presented a Christmas program Sunday evening December 12 at 7 o'clock at the First Baptist Church. A large crowd witnessed a blue and white decorated setting featuring a manger scene painted by Miss Mary Jo Payne.

Christmas Number of The American Heads to Press Early

W D Robinson Claimed by Death

W D Robinson of Spur former Stamford resident died at home Saturday December 4. He moved to Spur in 1920 and lived there since. Funeral at Spur Presbyterian Church Monday December 5 with Rev Fred Cairns officiating. Baldwins Return to Improve Property in Stamford

Mr J H Baldwin and daughter Misa Blanche Baldwin return to Stamford to reside after years on the Bald win ranch. The corner property at Orient and Reynolds has seen improvements including a new frame dwelling moved to the Reynolds street side and being prepared as a rental unit. Haterius Well Produces Oil Near Avoca Pool

Northeast outpost well Haterius No. 1 began flowing at 60 barrels per hour from 8212 feet after drilling to the lime pay. Acosta Bagwell Fight Set at City Auditorium

A 10 round return match between Freddie Acosta of Stamford and T G Bagwell of Rochester is planned for Monday night at 10 o clock in Stamford. Acosta weighs 190 pounds and Bagwell 195 pounds. The card includes a six round bout Jack Kirkland versus Roy Beard and a four round clash Carl Back against Ivan Moneey. Earlier Bramford action saw Dick Kuble and Jack Dillon draw after ten rounds with Dillon bleeding from a cut lip. Munney and Ethridge drew after six rounds in the semi final.

Safety Meeting for West Texas Utilities Employees

Stamford hosts the Stamford District safety meeting of West Texas Utilities Company on Friday afternoon followed by a Christmas party at the Country Club Friday night. W Campbell of Abilene and K Franch of Stamford lead the safety session with H M Dudley of Ketan coordinating safety. Stamford's Civil War veteran J N Wiley dies at 95

Jasper Newton Wiley 95 longtime Stamford resident and Civil War veteran died Tuesday at his son's home. Funeral held Wednesday at St John Methodist with Rev Reed and Rev Hinson assisting. Burial at Funston beside wife who died last March. Survived by four sons Floyd Tom Ek Hl Wiley J D Wiley two daughters ten others including 32 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Born Knoxville Tennessee June 3 1842 he moved to Texas in 1870 and lived in Belton Anson Haskell before Stamford since 1912. He served in the federal army and was a Methodist church member since childhood.

Fire and Ambulance Respond to Stamford Incident

A Wednesday night fire at the W. G. Bruce home in the Hanna addition damaged the roof from faulty wiring. An ambulance aided a Dallas salesman after his car overturned on Highway 14 near Stamford. no serious injuries reported beyond a minor finger cut.

First Pilot of China Clipper Visits Stamford

Capt Scotry Lewis of Pan American Airways spoke to the Stamford Exchange Club last Friday about flying the China Clipper to Honolulu. He and his wife visited en route to Miami where flights will run between Miami and South America. The club raised 100 for underprivileged Stamford children and planned a six month slate of officers led by A C Humphrey, T B Tinsley, and Dr L F Metz.

Worker suffers foot injury at Stamford Mill. foot amputated

A mill accident at the Stamford Mill injured a worker when a chamber was caught in a conveyer. He was rushed to Stamford Sanitarium by Barrow ambulance where his foot was amputated. Attendants reported a favorable condition after treatment.
