Stamford football lettermen will be entertained Friday night in the high school cafeteria by the Exchange club. Lonto Coleman, coach of Abilene Christian College, will be principal speaker. He is brother of Bulldog coach Carl A Coleman. Jack Fuqua will be master of ceremonies with remarks by President David Ratliff. Music by EF Kirkpatrick will accompany the meal.

The Stamford Bulldogs land four spots on the mythical 6A East All-District teams. Ray Hansen and Ted Sitten earned first team honors at end and backfield respectively, Norman Ward made the second team at center, Euclid Appling was named a tackle with others receiving honorable mention.

Rites Held for Lueders Man Arthur Covey
Arthur J. Covey age 71 died at his Lueders home Tuesday at 1 a m after a week with flu. Funeral held Wednesday at 2 p m at Lueders Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Byrd and Rev. Fred Moreland officiating. Burial in Lueders cemetery with Kinney Funeral Home in charge. Covey born July 23 1877 in Caldwell county married Cora Todd December 13 1905 joined Baptist church at 21. Survivors include wife three sons three daughters 23 grandchildren four great grandchildren two sisters and a brother.

Bulldogs Are Guests of Club at Rotary Meeting
Forty six members of the Stemford Bulldog football squad attended the Rotary club meeting. Rev Abner Fitzrerald led the banquet, and Coach Carl Coleman noted football is costly with shoes at 15 dollars, helmets 12, jerseys 10, and tape totaling 200 dollars. He warned 15 players graduate or become ineligible, leaving two seniors next year, and praised Ray Kansen as the finest player he ever coached.

Rat-Proofing Campaign Nears Completion in Stamford District
The Stamford downtown rat-proofing drive begun about a year ago by city manager Grady Bowdry is nearly finished. A trained city crew completed contracts last week with a deadline of January 5, 1949 for remaining buildings to be secured or removed. Some owners plan relocations, including Stamford Livestock Exchange, while others will determine future use after remediation. The effort, under U S Public Health Service guidance, followed surveys and cost estimates last December and a city ordinance requiring rat-proofing of businesses in public spaces.

Beil Burial Marks Lone West Texas Life Span
C D Beil, 74, died Tuesday night in Stamford Sanitorium after a month’s illness. Funeral service was held Wednesday at the Church of Christ in Rule with Lloyd Connell officiating. Burial followed in Rule cemetery beside his wife who died in 1936. Survived by two daughters, two sons, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Born December 21, 1873, in Calvert he came to West Texas in 1915. He previously lived in Rule and Stamford.

Thomas H. Cook 74, longtime Stamford and Wichita Falls native and Fort Worth resident, died Monday of a heart attack after breakfast. He is survived by his wife, three brothers John Henry and Charlie, a sister Nine Tutcher, and other relatives. Funeral services were held at Kinney Funeral Chapel with Masonic rites at Highland Home Cemetery. Burial followed in Stamford.

Work starts this week on the Westfall Motor Co. adding a 70 by 55 foot brick and concrete building south of the current shop. Chris Jones holds the contract for the addition which will house the sales floor offices and parts department. The present building will be remodeled with plastered interior stuccoed exterior a glass block front and an overhead service entrance. Clyde Westfall owner says about 90 days are needed to finish.

Body of Youth Killed on Iwo Jima Being Returned
Pvt. Troy Ford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ford of Wise Chapel, was killed in action on Iwo Jima on February 27, 1945. His body is being returned for re burial and funeral arrangements will be announced after arrival at the family home. Ford, born November 10, 1921 in Whitney, moved to Jones County in 1938, and graduated Hamlin High School in 1940. Survivors include his parents four sisters and six brothers living in various Texas locales.
