Rev H E Grimes a longtime Avoca resident and former Brazelton Lumber yard manager died at his home in Avoca after several years illness. Born June 6 1858 in Mobile Alabama he lived in Hill and Jones counties and was married 52 years. Survived by wife six children 41 grandchildren. Funeral at Avoca Methodist Church with burial in Spring Creek cemetery. Proceeded by Penick Hughes funeral home.

J. K. Brady was elected noble grand of Stamford Lodge No. 486 of the Odd Fellows to serve for the first term of 1931 at a regular meeting of the lodge Monday night. The other officers elected are A. M. Hess vice grand, J. L. Rucker secretary, C. F. Crump treasurer, J L. Rucker representative to grand lodge, and J. C. Vaden alternate.
Three fires on Thanksgiving night and early Friday in Stamford set a negative fire record for November. The Geo W Connell residence on Symonds Place suffered a total loss estimated at 8600 0 with $3500 insurance on the house and 2750 on the furniture. Fire crews faced delays due to no local water main and connected from Reynolds Street. Fire Marshal Meeker cited a clothes closet as the likely ignition point from freshly ironed garments.
Reverend C L Cartwright to Pacific Coast Conference for pastorate at Pioneer Memorial Church Oakland California. Reverend W C Fletcher shifts to Northwest Texas Conference as pastor of St Johns Methodist Stamford. Transfer approved by Bishop Arthur Moore with Bishop HA Boaz. Exchange likely effective December 15. Cartwright previously served one year at St Johns. Fletcher's Oakland church is leading local Methodist congregation.
W T McCulloch aged 60 died at his East Boulevard home after a lingering illness following a stroke. Funeral at St John’s Methodist Church Friday at 2 0 pm with Rev L Cartwright. Interment in Highland Cemetery. Survived by wife three daughters Mrs J D Smith and Mrs George Smith of Stamford and Mrs Sallie T Pate of Snyder and son J P McCulloch of Stamford.

Tickets are available at the chamber office for headcount, and the program includes a Fireman's Band concert, refreshments, and remarks by chamber officers and guests.
Miss Helen Paynter, a Manhattan Kansas graduate, arrives for three months of nutrition work in Stamford. The Red Cross program, organized by the Stamford Chapter, includes pre school classes for four to six year olds, Tuesday meetings, and planned school child health checks with possible adult classes and individual diet consultations.
