Death of Avoca preacher H E Grimes at 72

Rev H E Grimes a longtime Avoca resident and former Brazelton Lumber yard manager died at his home in Avoca after several years illness. Born June 6 1858 in Mobile Alabama he lived in Hill and Jones counties and was married 52 years. Survived by wife six children 41 grandchildren. Funeral at Avoca Methodist Church with burial in Spring Creek cemetery. Proceeded by Penick Hughes funeral home.

Three Stamford Fires Destroy Geo Connell Home Thanksgiving

Three fires on Thanksgiving night and early Friday in Stamford set a negative fire record for November. The Geo W Connell residence on Symonds Place suffered a total loss estimated at 8600 0 with $3500 insurance on the house and 2750 on the furniture. Fire crews faced delays due to no local water main and connected from Reynolds Street. Fire Marshal Meeker cited a clothes closet as the likely ignition point from freshly ironed garments.

McCulloch Dies After Lingering Illness at 60

W T McCulloch aged 60 died at his East Boulevard home after a lingering illness following a stroke. Funeral at St John’s Methodist Church Friday at 2 0 pm with Rev L Cartwright. Interment in Highland Cemetery. Survived by wife three daughters Mrs J D Smith and Mrs George Smith of Stamford and Mrs Sallie T Pate of Snyder and son J P McCulloch of Stamford.

A slow morning rain began before daybreak in Stamford and continued to about 5 a.m. totaling 1.16 inches. This followed a .44 inch rain on Friday night, bringing two rainfalls to 1.40 inches. The moisture will benefit winter grain crops.
