County Fair Urged As Regional Project By Local Judges

Judge W R Chapman urged Stamford Anson and Hamlin to back a county fair to develop Jones County resources. The Rotary meeting at Stamford Inn fostered friendship between Stamford Anson Lions members with pledges and goodwill messages from club leaders. A humorous after dinner bit and new member introductions followed the cordial session.

Stamford Anson Game Lineups Set For City Park Match

Stamford released its lineup this morning via Coach Tinsley while Anson’s coach Curtis confirmed the list in a phone call. The game starts at 3 pm at Stamford City Park with admission 75 cents and 35 cents. Officials include referee Freeland from West Texas Tech, head linesman Higgenbothan from WTT, and a third official to be chosen by the two.

Eighteen Turkeys Sold For Nearly $100 In Stamford

Mrs. W. C. Carton of Tuxedo sold eighteen large turkeys in Stamford for $96.20 to the Western Produce Company. The birds averaged over 21 pounds and brought 25 cents a pound. J. B. Smith Jr spent the weekend with his father, J. B. Smith Sr, principal of the Methodist orphanage school of Waco.

Legionnaires to keep order at Stamford Anson football game

At the request of County Attorney FE W Hardwick the Stamford and Anson American Legion Posts will supply a squad from each Post as special deputies for the Stamford versus Anson High School football game today. They act on sheriff orders with full peace officer authority. W G Swenson is named chief deputy from the Stamford Legion.

New C D Shamburger Lumber Yard Opens in Stamford

The C D Shamburger Lumber Company of Wichita Falls opens a two story office building at the northwest corner of the yard with an upstairs stock of doors roofing and baling materials and a long lumber shed extending east. T. Cope heads the Wichita Falls office overseeing the opening and J C Vaden joins as local staff. The yard serves Stamford and surrounding county as the seventeenth yard in the West Texas chain.

Annual meeting and banquet in Stamford will elect officers for the coming year. Reports on the past year and plans for 1924 will be heard, with dinner served by the Ladies of the Woodman Circle Drill team. Tickets available by calling the secretary at 44.

Mis-Spelled Word Contest Prizes Announced

Nine contestants found ten misspelled words each in the Mis-Spelled Word Contest. Prizes awarded in order of entry. Mine Louise Seaton first, W T Phillips disqualified for prior prize, second to Mrs Burt Flemins, third to Mrs S L Bryan. Readers are invited to enter by December 5 for Stamford American’s big prize and circulation campaign. A Buick Six touring car will be awarded December 24 to entrants who secure five ten year subscriptions and receive votes.

A fragmented notice urges ladies to renew subscriptions to win votes in a campaign for a Buick Six. Contestants must gather premia before December 6 and campaign ends December 24. One year subscriptions yield 1500 votes, two year orders 4000 votes. judges to count final votes will be named, with out of town contestants aided by post office registration.

Pordson Farming Demonstration Draws Hundreds

Two or three hundred farmers attended the Fordson farming demonstration at the old College campus last Saturday. Oliver and TaCross implements shown with Fordson tractors impressed the crowd and led to the sale of two or three tractors after the event.
