First Bales of Cotton Ginned at Old Glory Gin
The 1963 season opens with Leland Ashorn delivering two bales to Old Glory Gin on Tuesday August 20. The first bale weighed 473 pounds with 700 pounds of seed and a gross 2,000 pounds. Reno Hertzenberger notes 20 bales ginned by Saturday night as hot dry weather accelerates early “popping open” cotton. The article then catalogs local visits, travel, and family engagements across Stamford Clifton Lipan and nearby towns.
