Texas voters face four state amendments plus a local option on beer in Jones County. Ballots also present the federal repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment with separate columns for dry and wet votes. Three-way vote covers state beer approval, Jones County beer, and federal repeal.
The Ritz on North Swenson Avenue debuts with 8 p m showtime featuring Joe E Brown in Elmer the Great. The 475 seat venue offers spring cushions and plans to be the leading house until spring with selective pictures at popular prices.
The American notes a tax collection ordinance in Stamford city, urging delinquents to pay to avoid penalties. It explains leniency will end after October 10, stressing that the city needs owed funds and that collectors will take action on real property. R. G. A Stamford rally on the eve of the election will discuss repeal of the Eighteenth Amendment. ministers and speakers include Dr G S Slover Rev J W Wright Rev C R Hooton Elder H W Wrye and Rev Sam Morris. The event features a Stamford Band concert and radio broadcast with loudspeakers reaching the outskirts.
J F P pool will direct Stamford operations for the West Texas Cotton Growers Association, continuing his role from the Texas Cotton Co operative Association. He will oversee activities at several points near Stamford after a tour of the territory. The kids swam played and enjoyed ice cream lemonade and sodas under adult supervision. They returned tired and content as sunset neared marking the annual event.
Midland prepares to host Stamford in a two game indoor baseball set to decide the district title. The Stamford squad travels after losing both games in Midland last month setting Midland as favorites. The visit includes entertainments at the Alcove and New Ritz, a dance at the Swenson building, and a 10:30 p m ball Tuesday with The New Yorkers performing.
Five of nineteen charged with violating the federal radio code had posted bond or arranged hearings in Lubbock. Rev. Sam Morris and four Stamford associates face hearings September 18 with temporary bonds of 500 dollars. Morris indicated Sunshine Radio would continue operating until court action.

Checks to farmers who owe the government will be joint to farmer and Farm Credit Administration governor with deductions possible. Most Jones county farmers have no production loans.
Preparations are under way for a annual summer round-up for children entering school this September 5. Mrs Frank Owen PTA president announced on Wednesday that all children starting school will receive thorough medical examinations. Hours and location will be announced next week.

The Stamford unit Company K 142nd Infantry returned Sunday from fifteen days of field training at Camp Hulen. It marked the tenth annual summer camp for the unit with reviews for Governor Miriam A. Ferguson and Major General John A. Hulen. Fifty five men under Captain Frank Locke attended. ceremonies included ribbon streamers for S splits and range qualification.
