Stamford cotton seeds travel from Texas to Illinois
Mrs. Lowell Smith of Stamford gave Mrs. Jessie Blevens from Monmouth a kitchen box of cotton seeds last winter. A August 22 letter describes a Monmouth Daily Review Atlas clipping about Mrs. Blevens growing pink and white blooming cotton with pods. She transplanted seedlings three times before planting outdoors and eagerly awaits cotton blooms.

County farms seek federal aid for $1 million damage
Farmers and ranchers in Jones County were urged to notify the Soil Conservation Service about federal funds as repairs begin after heavy rains. About 75 attended a Stamford High School meeting on August 15 to hear details. funds are not yet available but expected in 60 to 90 days. Damage includes 20 ponds, 20 miles of fence, 100 acres of waterways, and 7.5 million feet of terraces.
