City to Attend DeLeon Hearing Over Train Service Cut
Stam ford residents will attend the Railroad Commission hearing in DeLeon Friday on Katy Railroad plans to discontinue passenger service between Stamford and Waco. Railroad officials argue trains 35 and 36 are loss making, while towns along the line organize the Central Texas Transportation Committee to oppose the move. Stamford figures Mrs Ona High, Joseph High, and Roy M Craig will represent the city.

Funeral Service Held Saturday for Mrs C E Combes
Mrs Char les E Coombes died Thursday and a funeral was held Saturday at Central Christian church with Rev. Nemo Goldston and Rev M Turpin officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Hill cemetery in Abilene. Survived by husband Judge Coombes, four sons Joe Goldsmith Charles E Jr Zach and Jerry, a daughter Beth Henagan and three brothers and three sisters. Kinney Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Traffic Count At Avoca Highway Underpass
A traffic count was made this week at the Avoca highway underpass with two mechanical registers recording each passing car. Stamford officials and the Chamber of Commerce Highway Committee visited Austin to seek widening. They presented photos of hazards from pedestrians walking in the highway under the railroad with traffic in both directions. The idea discussed was adding two walkways to widen the underpass. Lee Walker of the CofC hopes the count starts the project.

Two teenage Negro boys, about 16 and 17, are jailed in Anson County on $2,000 bond each for a Monday night robbery at Modern Shoe Shop on North Swenson, where $986 and checks were taken. a separate break-in at Stamford Grocery on West Metlarg yielded no cash. Police recovered $86, and only milk and bread were consumed at the nearby grocery.
