Little League Tryouts Set at Wendeborn Field

Wendeborn Little League hosts tryouts for both major and minor divisions after April 6 registrations. Of 58 major and 64 minor players, 28 are first time entries with tryouts set for April 13 at Wendeborn Field.

Stamford Leads District 7-AA Literary Meet Title

Stamford High School students topped the District 7-AA literary contest with 109 points on April 3. In Merkel, the one act play contest saw Stamford place first with the show Riders to the Sea, directed by Lillian Sotherland. Carolyn Reed was named best actress and Stamford earned multiple honors including several honorable mentions.

Stamford Junior High Band Earns Division I at Cisco

The Stamford Junior High Band earned a division I rating for concert playing and a division II rating for sight reading at Cisco Junior College in April. It marked the group's first competition in years with multiple solos and ensembles also earning division honors. names of students listed include Judy Beene, Debbie Green, Karen Upshaw, Jill Waggoner, and many others. Debra Woodson, Marinell Hargrove, Sherri Glen, Lisa Osmen, and additional performers also received division I ratings.

Voter Turnout High for City Hospital and School Elections

City elections saw Mayor James Self win with 285 of 332 votes cast while Police Chief B Q Cooper led the unopposed bid with 319. Hospital board races gave Swenson 320 West 315 Upshaw 313 and Rose 306. School race saw Billy Joe McKeever edge Leland Nauert by one vote. other contests included Beene noting law code variations for cities over 75 000 population. In total 295 ballots were cast.

Area Election Results Show Voter Turnout Across Boards

In Stonewall County elections James Martin won the third board vacancy with 58 votes while Jack Jones had 7 and Edward Walsch 71. Reno Erdman and Lee Roy Vanderworth won unopposed for Precincts 1 and 9 on the Trustees board. Paint Creek saw Wayne Wells lead with 44, Burl Medford 84, and Eddie Swanner lose by one vote. write ins counted for eight ballots. Lueders Avoca incumbents Huffaker and Jensen won 81 and 67 votes respectively. Succers city council saw scattered write ins. Ranch Davis and others received small counts.

Bulldogs Take Third At Comanche Relays Meet

Stamford Bulldogs finish third with 42 points at the Redskin Relays in Comanche. Sprint relay clocked 43.3 seconds in the 4x440, teammates Andy Young Matt Selmon Ricky Medford and Robert Stevenson. Individual Bulldogs include Stevenson second in 100 yards 10.1, Young second in 220 yards 22.6, Young tied for fourth in high jump 5-6.

Committee to Review CofC Manager Applicants

The Stamford Chamber of Commerce appoints a committee to screen applicants for the manager post to replace Lowell Longley who retires April 15. Stamford announces a Business and Industry Appreciation Day on Tuesday April 13 with a coffee event from 9 30 to 10 30 a m in the City Hall Council Room. Thirty one firms have either established or expanded operations this year with officials to meet the public and Chamber leaders.

County Judge Leon Thurman called the docket Tuesday and set dates for hearings and guilty pleas. Ten defendants in 45 cases docketed requested continuances or jury trials.

Rotan to Host 65th Firemen's Convention

The 65th Mid-West Texas Firemen and Fire Marshals Association meeting will be held April 10 in Rotan. Stamford residents attending include J. E.
