Stamford Council Funds Industrial Survey From Texas A&M

Stamford City Council approved spending not to exceed 4750 to hire Texas A&M University to conduct a five month industrial development survey. The effort, arranged by the Chamber of Commerce and Stamford Industrial Development Foundation, aims to identify local assets, suitable industries, and improvement needs to attract relocation.

Quade Services Planned Friday in Texarkana

Funeral services for Lamoine Quade will be held Friday in Texarkana. Quade was killed Tuesday night in a truck accident in Arkansas. He was a Rule High School graduate. Survivors include his parents Mr and Mrs Walter Quade of Arkansas two sisters his grandmother Mrs Lina Quade of Sagerton and two uncles Edgar Quade of Stamford and Glenn Quade of Sagerton.

George Moritz Wins First In Literary Contest

George Moritz of Stamford High School took first place in the boys division of the prose reading contest at the District 5AA UIL literary contests held here over the weekend. Stamford earned its sole first place. results for the ready writing contest had not been released.

Scurlock Funeral Services Held at First Baptist

Funeral services for Ray Scurlock 47 were held at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church with Rev Jack Southerland and Rev Temple Lewis officiating. Burial followed in Fast Hamlin Cemetery. Scurlock died of a heart attack after arriving at Stamford Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife Donna a daughter Judy a son Joe Ray five sisters and one brother. Pallbearers included Osment Bill Smith Jake Farmer Billy Stubbs Buster Toredemeyer and Frank Whitely.

Stamford Women Honored as Federation Leaders at District Meet

At the Mesquite District meeting three Stamford Pierian Club members were named outstanding for the year. Mrs. Dave Walker was Federation Mother of the Year, Mrs. Homer J. Merriott Federation Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Jack Watson Outstanding Clubwoman. Twelve Stamford members attended the convention in Colorado City. the Pierian Club earned multiple firsts, seconds, thirds and sweepstakes across Heritage Conservation Education Friendship and other divisions.

Bill To Create Hospital District Receives Here

The Stamford bill to form Stamford Hospital District was received this week with plans for a 50 bed facility. Rep Roy Arnedge and Sen David Ratliff are expected to file the proposal next week. A 75 cent tax per $100 valuation would fund the district with four fifths approval from both houses needed before introduction. The district would use school district valuations and bond timing and provisional directors from Stamford Memorial Hospital would become the district board. Federal aid is sought. Doran Funeral Pending At Odessa Mortuary

Lynn Doran former Stamford resident died on arrival at an Odessa hospital after a late Tuesday accident involving a man on horseback. Funeral arrangements will be announced by an Odessa funeral home. Surviving is his wife Peggy Bosse, a son Tommy, his mother Mrs J M Doran of Stamford, four brothers Darwin of Lubbock Ace Hilton and Russell all of Odessa, and two sisters Mrs Ek B Littlefield of Munday and Mrs Bertha Johns of Odessa.

Little League Signups Begin This Week With Plans Ahead

Applications for boys to join Little League baseball will be ready this week and distributed to schools. Return by May 15 for roster drawing. Insurance remains 1 dollar for ages seven to twelve and 2.50 for juniors thirteen to fifteen. Junior League managers listed for Exchange Rotary VFW Baptist. Freshman and Pee Wee leagues have named managers. one team lacks a manager. Officials and scorekeepers are sought. Games and practice schedules to be set in two weeks. Plans for a new lighted field and upgrades to existing facilities are underway.

First Holiday Drawing To Be Held Here Friday

The preliminary winners for the Free Holiday in Texas will be drawn tomorrow in all 12 participating stores and placed in a container at the Stamford American. A weekly winner will be drawn Tuesday with ten area families ultimately rewarded a free weekend, hotel stays paid, meals provided, and possible extra entertainment tickets. Stamford Hosts Volleyball Meet This Afternoon

The north zone District 5 AA girls volleyball championship will be at Stamford High School gym this afternoon. First game at 1:00, final at 4:30, with opponents drawn before play. Teams include Stamford Anson Haskell and Hamlin.
