Stamford Federal Opens Grand Opening in New Building

Stamford Federal Savings and Loan Association celebrated its grand opening in a new building at 122 West McHarg. The celebration runs through April 12 with gifts and door prizes including a color TV. Curtis Johnson notes April earns interest from the first for deposits by the 12th. The bank pays 4 percent dividends quarterly and plans indicate annual citywide dividends of about 270000 dollars.

Deeds Signed for Oil Mill Farm Road Project

Tom Boyd, commissioner of Kecinet 2 Joes County, reports right of way deeds secured for Old Oil Mill Road to be improved into a farm to market road. Letting date set for July 2. Part of the route in Precinct 1 will be acquired by Commissioner Johnny Agnew. The road will connect Highway 277 at the Cowboys Reunion Grounds gate and extend west to the Sagerton Tuxedo highway.

Stamford to keep guard unit under national reorg plan

The Texas Adjutant General’s Department reveals a national guard reorganization reducing Texas units by 42 percent and personnel by 17 percent. Stamford’s artillery battery will become an infantry company of 55 men, a return to its pre 1963 status, though few soldiers have infantry training.

City Purchases Booster Pump for Water System

Frese and Firstenberger of Fresno won a $5,456 bid as the low bidder for a raw water booster pump for Stamford. The pump will raise flow to about 3,600 gallons per minute in the line from Lake Stamford to the filtration plant, with further bids listed and a building installation project then planned.

Miss Margaret Crockett recipient of Stamford's Woman of Achievement recalls her diverse career. After earning a BS from Southwestern University in 1912 she taught seventh and eighth grades and English, then pursued further study at SMU Oakland University and Columbia University. She later taught English in Stamford until retirement in 1950.
