Rail wreck on the Thoroughfare traps and drowns many
Miantle City Oct 29 The Pennsylvania railroad electrified line bridge over The Thoroughfare between Atlantic City and the mainland witnessed a devastating wreck as two forward cars plung ed into 20 feet of water and sank. A third car hung on an abutment before also sinking. Estimates place dead at 37 with fears of higher totals as recovery continues. Passengers included 30 Royal Malian Artillery band members. A brake man, Wood, opened a rear door and helped passengers escape before perishing. Henry Roemer aided others after freeing himself. The accident followed a lightly misaligned rail that twisted inward, condemning the train.
