Colored Graded School District proposed in Washington County
At a September 26 1908 term of the Washington County Court a petition by local residents seeks to form a colored graded common school district with a detailed boundary. The court orders a November 4 1908 election at the colored school house on High Street to decide on a 25 cent property tax and $1 poll tax for colored voters to finance and maintain the district. Five trustees will be elected if the tax passes.
