A flange failure on a Louisville and Nashville fast mail train at Seventh and Hill streets caused a catastrophic wreck. Nine people killed and many injured as two coaches were crushed and passengers trapped. the No. 24 train from Knoxville was due at 8 o'clock.

The body of James Canter who died in the Philippine Islands on March 29 from malarial fever arrived last night for burial in the local Catholic cemetery. He served four years in the U S Army and was praised by officers as a brave soldier. He was about twenty five, son of Mrs Kate Canter, formerly of the town and now in Louisville, with many friends locally.

Watery Grave of Marion Lewis in River Seining Accident
Marion Lewis, about twenty, drowned in the river near Ire Sutherland's mill during a seining party. Blue Grass Tournament Comes and Goes at Springfield
Springfield's Graded School earned eight medals from ten entries at the Blue Grass Tournament. Mt. Sterling beat Springfield 4 to 1 in the opening ball game. Mary Haydon and Lyman Barber took second in Vocal Solo and Declamation. Lynne Bush won first in Grammar and John S. McElroy second in English Literature. Frank McCabe won first in the fifty yard dash. McElroy took second in the hundred. Will Waters won first in the hala solo and Mary Hayden again placed second. Spelling finals produced three first-place medals for Pleas ureville, Mt. Sterling, and Lebanon. The next tournament is planned for Springfield.
