Kentucky approves liquor tax to brand “Kentucky” barrels
Frankfort March 26 after a day of surprises the extra session adjourned at 6 pm following passage of a bill levying a tax of 1.5 cents per gallon on rectified liquor manufactured or shipped into the state for branding with the state name. The measure goes to the Governor for approval likely tomorrow. The act is expected to raise about $150000 annually with last year’s output reported at 10.5 million proof gallons. The extra session cost the state about $15000.

In Willisburg area Mr Moss of Springfield bought several crops of tobacco at prices from 8 to 9 cents per pound. W S Gibbs shipped seven jacks to Danville for western markets and sold a jack to his brother Ezra Gibbs. Sandy bought a horse and a harness mare for 100 dollars each. Gibbs reported selling over thirty jacks in the past month. Local sickness includes typhoid fever, lagrippe, and pneumonia. Church and social visits are noted among residents through the week.

Death of Mrs Edelen on Main Street
Mrs Lucette Edelen died Sunday night at about six o'clock at her home on lower Main street from heart disease. In her eighty eighth year she was born Miss Simms and was sister to Thomas W Simms and the late John Simms. She was an active member of her church and a devoted mother of five children Carrie Kate Ben Greg and Thomas. Funeral held yesterday at 9 am at St Dominic's church.

Death of Mrs Dragoo at 24 follows long illness
Mrs Dragoo died at her home last Friday at 1 30 after months of consumption. She was a devoted member of the Springfield Bay Uist church and a Christian woman. Aged twenty four, she leaves a husband and two small children along with other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Saturday afternoon, with interment at Cemetery Hill.
