Sudden Death Claims Miss Mayme Knott in St Louis
The death of Mayme Knott at Guardian Angel Academy in St Louis followed a brief illness of pneumonia after a business course start in October. Born November 13 1889 she was in her twentieth year and reared in the county. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at St Domini c's church with her mother Mrs Sue Knott and relatives notified.

Danville honors McElroy with college oratorical win
John Shuck McElroy Jr of Springfield Kentucky, a Central University senior in the Academic Department, won the annual twenty second oratorical at the College Chapel on Monday night. His speech titled The Evolution of the South explored the past present and future of the South with judges and a large crowd in attendance. Lawrence McQueen of Shelbyville Tennessee placed second with Progress of Poverty, while Messia Crabbe and Hughes also delivered strong orations The contestant is a member of the Deinologian Society and has previously earned three first places for thought and composition.

Death of Mr. Peter Shehan of Washington County
Mr. Peter Shehan died at his home near Maud last Wednesday night after a long illness. Born September 1, 1829, he married Mary Ferguson in July 1864 and raised ten children, nine of whom are prominent locals in Nelson and surrounding counties. Surviving are his wife and children including Mrs. John Virgin, Mrs. Josie Shehan, Mrs. Neal Bodine, Mrs. Chas. Lewis, John Shehan, Mrs. R. htt, Mrs. Jennie Barlow, W. P. and Dunley Shehan. Funeral services were held Friday at Camp Ground Church.

Hidden Civil War Treasure Found in Garrard County Farm
Harlan county man H S Hensley uncovered a tin box in the old Nathan Ross farm house near Garrard county containing $22,500 in U.S. currency, $1,100 in Confederate money, diamonds valued up to 36000, a cap and ball revolver, and IOUs. The box also held notes on Garrard residents. Ross, once wealthy with land and slaves, is believed to have hid the valuables during the Civil War to protect them from marauders. Heirs to the estate are reportedly still in Garrard. It is unclear what Hensley will do with the discovery.
