Mr W D Claybrooke has received a letter from A P Gooding of Lexington stating he will visit next Monday to discuss establishing a loose leaf tobacco market and stemery at this place. Gooding will be joined by world’s largest barley tobacco exporter Mr Petty who may run the stemery and hire 100 men six months a year. Danville and Lebanon have bid, while Springfield is favored by Gooding and Petty for tobacco quality and county benefits. Action is required Monday as locals weigh the offer and impact on Wash- On county.

Dr J N Shehan Weds Miss Lydia Houston in Louisville

The marriage of Dr J N Shehan and Miss Lydia Houston of Maud was announced on Tuesday. The ceremony occurred at the Methodist parsonage on Sixth and Broadway in Louisville. Dr Shehan is a respected physician in the county and Miss Houston is the daughter of D H Houston of Maud. Friends across the county extend congratulations.

Mrs. John Houchins reports the loss of over 200 Brown Leghorn chickens after feeding them spoiled two gallon corn brine. A child misidentified the corn as cod and a batch was given to the flock, resulting in mass deaths and only about six survivors remaining on the farm.

Bitten By Copperhead In Hardin Farm Accident

Ab Hardin son in law of A O Tatro hotel proprietor living on his father’s farm six miles northwest of town was bitten three times by a copperhead while taking hay from a barn loft. The snake was killed and he was treated with salt and vinegar poultice, then taken to Dr J H Shafer and later to the Tatro Hotel for care. He is reported quiet and out of danger.

Fox Ridge Wins Close Baseball Clash Then Demolishes Waltons

In a tight opener Fox Ridge defeated the Waltons 7 to 5 after a late rally sparked by a wild throw from Spalding. Monster Equity Parade Planned in Louisville During State Fair

The Grundy Orphanage boys beat the local small boys team 9 to 1 at the ball park on Tuesday. A large crowd attended the well played game, with proceeds going to benefit the Orphanage team.
