A Soldier Of Commerce And A Southeast Tale
In a tense scene aboard a vessel bound for the Caspian, Biartelkis plots to marry his daughter Koura to a prince while Hassan seeks hidden linen to boost a cargo. Hafiz Effendi orders a neutralized plan killing the girl’s chances and delivering her to a Persian buyer, as piracy and deceit swirl around the bazaar and river trade along the Kur. Meanwhile an American merchant, Harvey Sons, frets at Salai as he seeks transport to Astrakhan and Nijni Novgorod, muttering about delays and sales prospects amid shifting routes along the Volga trade.
