Agricultural Millennium Hangs On Farm Unions And Crops
A long discussion of farm life forecasts a future where machines, better seed, and organized labor among hired hands shape agriculture. It notes corn and clover, cow milk, and wheat yields, advocates pedigreed seed for higher corn output, and cites silage versus field corn methods, debt safety in dairy cows, and shifts toward diversified crops as wheat acreage grows uncertain. The piece also mentions Italian immigration to southern farms and the Berlin clock as a scientific aside.
