Courting in an Open Fire of Steam and Sentiment
A Courier-Journal column recalls old fashioned courtship versus modern life in Louisville. An elderly narrator laments loss of romance amid steam heated apartments and radiator talk, recalling fireside moments, the poetry of love, and a desire to melt radiators into fireplaces. The piece also notes Dr. Runyan’s patent medicine ad and praises Helen Pitkin, a Southern writer and New Orleans woman of beauty and talent.
