Mrs. Mary Curd of Tatham's Spring narrowly escaped an intense fox hunt near Mercer and Anderson counties. While en route home after buying furs in Springfield, a pack bayed and pursued her buggy, injuring several hounds as she sped to safety. Her husband finally drove the animals away.
Mr. Jas. H. McClure was summoned to Henryville Indiana on Monday due to the death of his brother Jesse who passed away Sunday night from consumption. The deceased had visited Springfield often and left many friends, admired for his amiable disposition and character.
A Springfield reader to the editor argues that a few rival voices have used anti trust rhetoric to foster a growers uprising in Washington county. The letter cites a Continental Tobacco Co statement showing three year purchases and expenses, contending the trust pays far less per pound than possible and has kept over 164 thousand dollars from growers. The writer urges continued county by county mass conventions and renewed effort to organize for 1905 to secure fair prices, claiming the growers must unite to pressure the company and resist the trust unless it meets reasonable demands.

Jake Snyder and family were guests of Mrs. Maud Anderson Sunday.

Cincinnati February 7 The prospects of closing the 10 million tobacco deal grow dim as Eastern capitalists impose new conditions. Archibald Stuart of Burley Tobacco Growers’ Stone arrives with New York financiers to press terms. Rockefeller and Standard Oil interests are named as dominant forces behind the tract. It is said 8.8 million remains ready to back the contract while 2 million more is being sought.
News arrives from Greensburg of the death of Car Durham the three year old son of Mr and Mrs R L Durham. The child died after two days of brain trouble. Mr Durham is the district Commonwealth's Attorney and well known locally. Friends express deep sympathy.
For two weeks several males owned by Luther Jenkins near Willisburg have fallen ill and died from an unknown ailment diagnosed as gastric muscle by Dr. Lawrence the veterinary surgeon. More horses and mules are affected though not expected to be as fatal. The losses are significant and treatments are being tried.
Thomas A McIntire of McIntire died at his home after a lingering illness. Born March 28 1833 he spent most of his life in Washington county where he served as county assessor and earned lasting respect. A devout Catholic and member of the Catholic Knights America his death elicits wide condolence. He is survived by four sons and numerous friends.
Deputy Sheriff Henry D Day aged 40 collapsed dead in Whiteburg Kentucky under peculiar conditions after a prior arrest dispute with John Whittaker. Day pursued Whittaker on a minor charge, a struggle followed, and he later died watching over the jail scene.
