Tobacco farmers across counties push to pool the 1907 crop with large acreages already signed up in the Burley District. A warehouse will be built and ready when weather allows, easing storage and handling. Officials hope at least 80 percent of Washington county’s crop will be pooled before May first. Get into the pool.
Friends of C C McChord in the Second District say he will have no opponent in the upcoming primary and that opposition will fade. They praise his service and fearless work to promote public interests, asserting the railroad commission would be weaker without him.
H S Towler assistant manager of the local telephone exchange is lauded for perfecting the county system and earning Springfield a highly reliable service. Washington county now boasts one of the state’s most complete networks thanks to his efforts. Also mentions Dr King s New Life Pills as a liver and bowel remedy.
The Central Bank of Willisburg Kentucky announces the resignation of President Dr W W Hyatt and the unanimous election of Dr Hyatt as president. Former president W S Gibbs resigns after selling his farm and moving near Springfield. Directors praise the bank and Hyatt as a safe trusted institution with strong leadership.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rodman Williams, born November 23, 1882, wife of Dr. Rodman Williams, were held February 4 at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church. She joined the church at 18 and died February 2, 1907, with a burial at the local cemetery. Relatives express faith and hope in heaven.
Hanson Robertson of the Texas neighborhood was declared unsound mind in county court yesterday. He went blind some time ago and his despondency due to blindness is thought to have caused the insanity. Robertson, about forty, is married with eight children.
The Kentucky Democratic district committee ordered a primary for the Second Railroad District on April 2 to nominate a candidate for Railroad Commissioner. An assessment of 6000 was approved to fund the primary across 32 counties with entries due by March 12 and payments by March 14. The district committee will canvass results April 11 in Louisville, with potential cancellation if a single candidate files by March 12.
Commissioner McChord and J S Botts with James Rogers of Lexington attended a committee meeting. McChord stayed outside while Botts entered the room and spoke briefly to the committee men. Botts declared he would stay in the race in either a primary or a convention but urged a convention to make the nomination.
The Graded School Tournament will enter its TM year in Springfield bringing about four hundred contestants and as many visitors over several days. Merchants must donate medals and aid the effort, while locals host contestants in homes to ensure a successful event and hospitality that reflects well on central Kentucky towns.
Julia Muir Wells, youngest child of Mr and Mrs T Dudley Wells, recently moved to Lebanon, was badly burned when her clothes caught fire from an open grate. Miss Sadie Mayes and Mrs Wells sustained minor burns while helping extinguish flames. doctors worry pneumonia but prognosis remains hopeful.
Black & Johnson of Pulliam report a booming business after a half page Sun ad campaign now in its third week. They actively compete with mail order houses, and Mr Johnson says no Sun issue will go to press without their advertisement. Nine new Willisburg subscriptions were telephoned in last Saturday as the list grows. plans to open subscription books to Black & Johnson in a few weeks target their sky ads.
The Hartford Herald reports pastor Rev G W Lyon of the Methodist church has led a two week protracted meeting with growing success. Seven joined Methodist, two joined Baptist, five penitents and two professions near study end. The meeting continues as interest stays high and songs including the Glory hymn spread through the congregation.
The Washington County medical group convened to discuss upgrading equipment and patient care. They approved a new price schedule to reflect rising costs, with higher rates for longer distances and night visits, while pledging continued charity and service.
The temperance movement forms the Lebanon Anti Saloon League with Rev. J. A. Hogarty as President and Rev. T. M. Corneilson as Secretary. Prominent Lebanon business and professional leaders join a united effort to close saloons by the March 26, 1907 election, pledging an honest battle without strife.
